“So (y/n)”, Edward said. You turned to the blond boy. “I recall you saying you would tell us why you don’t need a transmutation circle to perform alchemy.”
You felt the slightest bit worried. The memory of saying you would tell them about your past lingered in your mind.
“Well…” you trailed off. “It’s a long story.”
Edward crossed his auto-mail leg over his right leg (and damn did he look sexy), resting his head on his hand.
“We have the time to listen.” He said, his golden eyes sparkling with interest.
You told the Elric Brothers everything. About your friend, the Truth-practically everything. The boys had seemed to be slightly surprised.
“I’ve always felt as though I was the only person guilty of committing the taboo,” you finished thoughtfully. “I’ve never heard of someone else who also attempted human transmutation.”
Edward glanced at his brother. The golden-eyed alchemist looked almost…nervous and worried. The younger brother nodded to his elder sibling.
Edward looked at you, a serious expression planted on his face. He let out a small sigh.
“You’re not the only one,” he replied, never taking his eyes off of you.
It was now Ed and Al’s turn to tell you their story. Complete and utter shock flowed through your body as they told you about their past. Edward was right-you weren’t the only one.
“And so,” Edward finished, “That’s our little experience. You are not the only one.”
A few bitter tears fell down your face. “I’m not…” you trailed off, sniffling. “I’m not the only fool…”
You gave the two young boys a delicate grin. Alphonse gave you a friendly nod, while his brother flashed you one of his priceless grin.
Leaning against the window, you watched the afternoon landscape pass by. The pastures were painted a beautiful green, and small homes were dotted here and there.
Pulling out your book that you had started earlier, you decided to read. Edward had already seemed to drift into sleep. The boy took up most of the seat, forcing you to sit very close to the window. He looked so peaceful and adorable while he was sleeping, blond hair flowing in front of his face. You couldn’t help but grin in the slightest.
“Hey (y/n)?” Al asked. You turned your attention to the younger brother. “Yeah?” you replied, placing the bookmark where you left off reading.
“Do you like Brother?”
You paused. What kind of question was that? “Yes, of course,” you replied blushing slightly. “As a great friend of mine.”
Now it was Al’s turn to pause. “No…I mean…are you in love with Brother?” (shit just went down)
Your eyes widened in surprise and nervousness, as your face became beet red.
“N-n-n-n-no!” you stammered. “I mean”- you paused to cough as convincingly as possible-“Where did you get that idea, Al?”
Alphonse narrowed his red slits. You imagined that, if you could actually see his face, there would be a small grin planted on it.
“I just assumed,” he replied in a mocking tone. “Since you always seem to blush around him and he’s one of the only people you really open up to. Not to mention you always try to be around him”-
“OKAY, ALPHONSE!” you almost yelled, followed by a long sigh. “We get it.” You paused. “I-i-i-it’s not that obvious, is it?”
Al started to giggle. You kinda wanted to hit him with a chair (even though he wouldn’t really feel anything).
“Well,” the armored boy replied, his giggles dying down. “It is to me and to a couple other people, but not to Brother…”
You glanced down at Edward’s sleeping form. His hands were under his head as he faced his younger brother, as his chest rose and fell slowly. Undeniably, he was adorable. After flashing a faint smile at the young State Alchemist, you looked back up at Alphonse.
“Other people?” you asked demandingly. “What OTHER people?” Part of you didn’t want to hear the answer to that question.
“I don’t know,” Al replied, aware of your anxiousness. “Maybe…” He hesitated, almost as though he was thinking of your reaction. “The Colonel?”
You froze. No wonder he seemed hesitant. “The…Colonel?” you asked, your voice barely above a whisper. The younger brother hesitated again before nodding slowly.
“BWAHH!” you practically screamed, but not loud enough for the whole train to hear. “That damn Colonel! He thinks he can see right through me, huh? I’ll show him! But wait, what if he tells someone else?! Ah, then I’ll tear away at him piece by piece by using a pitchfork, starting with his di”-
“(y/n)!” Al almost yelled. You had forgotten he was there. “No.”
Forming your face in a pout, you slouched in your seat. “I’m just worried is all,” you explained with embarrassment. “I really have my doubts about that guy.”
Alphonse started laughing again. “I won’t tell anyone,” he said sweetly in that childish voice of his. “I promise.”
After blinking a few times, you sat up, flashing the younger brother a grin.
“Alright,” you said. “I trust you.”

After about three hours, you and the Elric brothers stopped about halfway to Rush Valley to relax and get some food.
So there you were, sitting next to Edward, eating chicken noodle soup and a roll. Edward had gotten chicken noodle soup, too.
“So Edward,” you began, swallowing some of your tasty roll. Edward took a spoonful of soup and swallowed it before turning his attention to you.
“Why do you need repairs?” You glanced at his arm. “It looks fine to me.”
Edward clenched his auto-mail hand into a fist before releasing it. He was no longer looking at you, but rather at his feet.
“I felt as though the arm was dislocated,” he replied steadily. “Like it shifted when I made sharp movements.”
You nodded, not really knowing what else to say.
No, I mean…do you love Brother?
Al’s words kept repeating in your mind. Ever since he said that, you were hesitant around Edward.
Of course, Edward didn’t know this, so you tried to act natural.
“I’m so bored,” you complained. “When are we getting on the train?”
Alphonse looked up at you. “We’ll be taking the last train heading to Rush Valley today,” he said. “We have to be there by 9:45.”
“9:45?!” you exclaimed, jumping up. “What will we do for the next eight hours?”
“I don’t know.”
“But—“ You cut yourself off. Eight hours. And Alphonse was the one who bought the tickets.
Well, shit.
That bastard! you thought. He’s trying to set me up with Ed! I’ll kill him!!
“Well,” Alphonse said, interrupting your thoughts, He stood up. “I’m gonna have to go and pick some stuff up. I’ll see you guys later!”
And before you knew it, it was just you and Edward sitting in the café.
Crap! You thought. What do I do?!?!?!?!
“Hey (y/n),” Edward acknowledged you. You turned to him, but he was not making eye contact with you. “Don’t you think Al was acting a little weird…?”
You paused. “Y-yeah.” You replied nervously.
“W-well,” Edward began. “Maybe we should just…hang out until Alphonse gets back.”
You felt your cheeks heat up.
You gulped, your cheeks becoming increasingly red.
“S-sure.”
