I've been working on a story for awhile now, enough to get character refs commissioned. I'm using the codename 'Our Train' until I decide on a name.

And no, this is not stolen artwork. It's commissioned. I worked with a wonderful artist, Monika Andruszkiewicz, who did an amazing job helping me bring my characters to life. The artist's logo is on the bottom.

Here's a bit about the story so far.
It's a world where trains are the primary means of transportation. It's a time when the older Steam engines are getting replaced by Diesel engines.

There are two MCs, Suzanna and Amelie. Suzanna's father's a conductor of a passenger train, and she grew up fixing trains and traveling the lines with her dad. So, she likes to get her hands dirty. Amelie is a tenderfoot when it comes to trains, and Suzanna has to watch out for her at first. Amelie is from Old Money, the social tier that is slowly being replaced by the new merchant class. Suzanna is working class. In the second part, Suzanna is about to marry into the merchant class. The girls are around 15 yrs old in the first part of the book.

The second part takes place after a time span of 10 years. They have not seen each other since the ending of the first book.

When they meet, Amelie is a convicted murderess and the first woman criminal to be sentenced to death. Amelie breaks free from the prison train on her way to execution when it comes into Suzanna's train station. Suzanna helps her escape, and through a series of events, ends up going with her. Eventually the girls' friendship grows romantic.

Amelie in part 2 has a buzzed head. Her hair shaved off when she was sent to prison. Her lack of hair reveals a thick scar that traverses the left side of her cranium. Her face is still beautiful, but her eyes are cold, distrustful and hateful. She now has an athletic, but still lithe body type.

More about Amelie:

Long, dark hazel hair. Stormy eyes. Flawless, alabaster skin. Very pretty, porcelain doll-like face. Delicate features that can flip genders (similar to a Boy's Love Japanese actor—very pretty and hard to tell which gender at first). Lithe body type. Small chested. Doesn't smile. Hides her feelings behind stoicism. When Suzanna isn’t looking, her eyes might soften and she'd smile lightly. She's not a tomboy but her standoffish attitude gives her 'bad boy' feel. Doesn't have any friends when she meets Suzanna, who hates her at first but later they become friends. She's from society's upper echelon--Old Money that’s slowly becoming obsolete. But she tries to distance herself from her tier b/c she has a terrible relationship with her parents. She likes to wear summer dresses, but her mother forces her to dress like those of her tier--think Steampunk Victorian era clothing. Doesn't own a single pair of pants. She's graceful with a good posture, from her posh upbringing. Intricate hands that make the most mundane task beautiful.
