Description
Taken with a rented Kodak DSC 3.1 MP camera.It was a 16 second exposure at ~12am on the Penn State (UP) campus.

I've passed by Old Main many, many times over the last couple years, but I don't remember it ever looking so lovely. Beautiful photograph.

This is a really nice result you got here. For one thing, for such a long exposure, the tonal distribution is wonderfully balanced (i.e., not too bright overall). I especially like, too, how it superficially sells as perfectly symmetric (especially down toward the ground) but the modest imbalance in light up top creates a rightward motion that adds to the beauty of the shot.
Most important, though, is that overexposure of the central tower - the blown-out detail forces the viewer to complete the image, which is fundamentally more involving anyway, and it creates a great illusion of something happening, as opposed to the shot seeming merely "still." The structure dead center below adds to that, and then the rightward momentum up top adds to that. Not to MENTION the most benevolent reflection flare you possibly could have hoped for.
With the added benefit of the moon as " guest star" of the image, you ended up with a really nice shot for your trouble. Good job on this.

This is by far the most in depth and instructive criticism I remember ever having received here on dA. Therein lays the major difference between you and I and perhaps people like you and the majority of users here on dA - the technical expertise.
Here I was, thinking 'that's a cool shot' but then you come along and explain to me _why_ it is a nice image and I appreciate that greatly. Thank you, once again.
