Anime Evolution Print 03: Blending HeartsThe next up in my arsenal of prints for AE is a Kingdom Hearts flavored work.
The Picture
I decided to draw everyone's favorite destiny island residents ( well i like Tidus and Wakka too but they're no where to be seen in the second iteration ) When i saw this one in my head, i pictured Kairi at the bottom * looking as cute as i could draw her * instead of putting Sora first. I felt he'd look better at the top. I was going to go with a tint on each character ( like the art from the first game ) but in the end, i decided to keep it like this. Then as an added touch, i wanted the colors to kind of bleed off of the characters, and blend together.
As always, i wanna know what you guys think : )
Many thanks to the lovely for her sage like advice and assistance. She's the reason Kairi looks cute, and sora doesn't have Super Saiyan hair.

i actually wanted to emulate his look a little ( i'm sure you've seen the art work from the first book )
I knew going in that i can't do it like nomura himself ( the guy is a genius ) so i wanted a sort of "tribute" to the look he creates

Oh wow!! Kairi looks so adorable! And look at Sora's hair!! You can draw Sora's hair so well! And Riku is just gorgeous. The colors are beautiful, and I love your coloring technique!

The Kingdom Hearts heroes in all their glory. You did indeed well with the composition, I especially like the profile you made of Riku. And Sora's hair is indeed the way it should be xD
Now more about critic, I'd say Kairi's mouth is a bit too low and a bit boyish, while Sora's eyes and lips make him a bit... girly (actually, if I didn't know it IS Sora, I'd have thought it was a girl). Also, Sora's arm seems... quite oddly bent, he must probably break one or two bones in order to keep a pose like this.

man you're pretty good at this, you saw the same things jubz saw, for the most part. On the arm bit, i was feeling the same way you were, until i gave it a shot in the mirror a few times, what makes it look like it might be off, is that it lacks depth. I don't have any of the muscle groups or bends particularly highlighted, so without those guiding forces, it looks a might painful to some- but as for sora looking girly, Dead on, homie
I was aiming for that on purpose. Even though Sora has proven himself to be pretty manly on some notes, those FMVs give him the kind of bone structure and lips that most women would kill for (LOL ) This is something pretty common with a lot of JRPG male leads, some of them tend to look pretty, er.., womanly? LOL Prime example : Magna Carta- damn the designs are awesome, but i totally thought the main character was a flat chested woman.

PS. I pulled my bicep muscle when I tried this though... Didn't break my bone, but did pull a musle (most likely cause I'm not that flexible but lol).

Yeah, about that arm thing, you're right (after doing it myself xD).
And also definitely right with the japanese male heroes (and male singers, too ?) looking a bit (a lot ?) girlish sometimes. There's a good reason a lot of the best cosplays of those characters are made by... girls. ._.
But it doesn't seem to disturb those japanese chara designers, since they keep doing the same kind of designs XD

Although I agree with you on the eyes and the lip, the pose is perfectly possible without breaking a bone. It's a bit of a push on the joints, but the human arm can bend like that. I tried it with much success without the splitting of my bones into two halve bones

It looks very nice. Soft plushy Papu fruit there too that Kairi is holding. Do wonder how well those things taste.
