Great tutorial! but do you do this all in one layer? or use a layer for each color? and is your layer set to normal? as well as the brush?

yeah , one layer set to normal but the lines should get erased frist(transparent) if you wanna do that, if not just set to mutiply

you make it look so easy. i've seen your past tutorials but i still can't get it right. well... partly because i use a mouse. i can't afford those fancy ass tablets yet. i realized a lot of my mistakes after reading this. for example, to make the darker and lighter skin tones, i often use the smudge tool. i smudge them separately then i smudge them after i've merged them. which makes everything so complicated. and the use of white in the highlight. what i do is create a separate layer for the highight and use white then i smudge them again... then i play around with the opacity.
i also change the settings of my brush but it doesn't help much coz im an idiot. haha.
thanks for the great tips by the way. hope you create a tutorial for creating the eyes and the nose. those are problem areas for me--especially the nose. i don't draw the whole thing... i try to make it appear by using lights and shadows... but it always turn out wrong.
keep up the good work.

Decent tutorial, but it teaches more of what colors to use when shading than the actual technique of how to shade.

Interesting. It's all about light direction.
I like how you used the purple highlight it gives the drawing a very natural feel.
Well done.
