---------------------------------------“Hey, ummmmm... Mushroom guy!” Katie called out to Shroomsworth as she stepped inside the Merchant’s hut. “Where’s the Lizard lady?”
“Excuse me?” Shroomsworth replied, turning.
“The Lizard lady...she’s purple, and loud, and she likes to eat I think,” Katie responded. “D’you know where she is?”
“Ah, well, Miss PK seems to have... disappeared. I’m sure she’s on important business and will return promptly,” He replied, turning away.
“Her too? Cause our bird friend is also missing... is she on ‘important business’ too? ” Katie asked.
“It is the same with all of the guilds,” Shroomsworth said, his back still to the young Mienfoo and Heracross. “Yes, disappearances everywhere, in every team.”
“Well, what are we supposed to do?” Brian said, looking over his friend’s head. “Just wait ‘till they get back?”
“We are doing everything we can to keep order and calm in the town. But to answer your question, yes, for now. Am I to assume you two are in the Merchant’s guild? You could help, if you wanted” said Shroomsworth.
“Would we get money?” Katie asked, a toothy grin on her face.
“And more leaf things to buy stuff?” Brian said, fiddling with his bell.
“If you do a good job, yes.” Shroomsworth replied, turning back to the pair.
“What do we gotta do? Is it like last time, plantin’ stuff?” Asked Katie.
“No. Do you know of the Spinda Cafe? Run by Vertigo?” Shroomsworth said.
“Is Spinda Cafe the one with the Spinda working there?” Brian asked, demonstrating his astuteness.
“The very same.” Shroomsworth replied. “He too has disappeared. And I am tasking you two with assisting to run the cafe today in his absence. Hops will guide you.”
“And there will be money?” Katie asked again
Shroomsworth sighed. “Yes, there will be a small recompense for your time.”
“Ok, we’re on it, boss!” Katie said, giving a clumsy salute. “C’mon Brian, we got money to make!”
The two young merchants dashed from the Merchant's hut, heading for the cafe.
“Is this it?” Brian asked.
“Brian... Its a building in the shape of giant Spinda head...” Katie responded.
“So yes?”
“Yes...”
“Ok good, let’s go!”
They entered the cafe to find a mass of pokemon all talking and crowding angrily around a Shuckle with a deli hat sitting behind the bar.
“Hey! Are you Hops?” Katie shouted to the beleaguered Shuckle.
“Your drinks will be out soon!” He shouted at her. “Give me a moment!”
“We didn’t order drinks. We got no money. We’re here to help you. For money. Mushroom guy told us to,” Katie responded.
“Mushroom guy? Shroomsworth? He’s back in town?” Hops asked distractedly, preparing several drinks at once.
“Yeah, him.” Brian said, admiring the shiny bell sitting in the counter.
“Oh good, good...” Hops said, “Just give me moment here!”
Hops’ tentacles flew, and grumbling customers soon left with their drinks.
“Whew, glad that’s over, lunch rush is always so busy. Especially since Vertigo... ah... Well now, why don’t you three come over here and I’ll show you what to do,” Hops said.
“Three?” Katie asked
“Yeah you, and bugface, and the Tepig who came here to help earlier,” Hops replied good naturedly.
“Yo. I’m Firo.” said a voice from one if the chairs
“Ok...” said Katie, eyeing him. “Well, if you are helping, just know, we get all the money. All. We need it to build a thing, its real important,” Katie said.
Firo sighed. “Sure, yeah, whatever...” He replied. He seemed unenthused.
Hops walked the three merchants over to the bar.
“You will have three jobs while you work here at the cafe! One: make drinks and appetizers! You will find all the appropriate berries, creams, breads, and sauces in this cupboard or under the counter. Two: serve the guests! The quickest of you should be in charge of ferrying drinks and food to the tables. DO NOT spill, spills equal money! And three: entertain the customers! I’m handling the more expensive and complicated drinks today, so I won’t be able to perform my usual juggling for the customers.”
“Ok,” Katie said, “I will pick--”
“I call drinks! I’m doing drinks, I called it!” Brian said, waving his arm around.
“Dang,” Katie muttered. “Then I guess I got serving. I don’t want that job, that’s what MISSY is supposed to do... Firo, you wanna do serving instead?”
“Can’t. Blind.” The Tepig responded
“Well, then help Brian,” Katie said
“Still blind.”
“Well what do you WANT to do?” said Katie, frustrated.
“Drink,” He replied as he sat down at the bar.
“Well, if you won’t help, why don’t you just go steal a fancy book or something!” Katie huffed
“Oddly specific, but ok” Firo replied, hopping off the chair and walking gloomily out the door.
