messy family tree for a messy ass family…
I hope the colors/lines make sense?? Basically the relationships that have the blue line with the red heart inside are like….healthy established relationships, that form a family unit…you can also have relationships that are based in pure love/lust, without the commitment of a partnership, which would have a red heart for a current love verses a pale heart for a past love. If it doesn’t make sense I’ll refine the colors/lines/symbols in the future…now onto the notes
From the top, left to right
ROW 1 (TOP)
Golden Canary (deceased)
- Father of Firelight Glimmer, ex-husband to Gemma Glimmer, son of some mining ponies who died a long time ago
- Official cause of death was black lung, caused by his years of work in the mines

Gemma Glimmer (deceased)
- The daughter of a pair of gem mining ponies, considered the aristocracy of the small town. It was a scandal when she fell for and later married Golden Canary, a coal mining pony of considerably lower status.
- Died of carbon monoxide poisoning due to long term exposure, the house she relocated to after her divorce from Canary was unfortunately right on top of an unknown underground coal fire which was leaking the gas. Golden Canary never forgave himself for any of it, one of the ways this manifests is him coddling his son after her death.
ROW 2
Firelight Glimmer
- Son of Golden Canary & Gemma Glimmer. When his parents divorced it was a little upsetting for him, his father especially suffered a lot afterwards, but his mother seemed a lot happier, and Firelight really enjoyed spending the weekends at her lovely little cabin near the woods. His father, though prone to sullen moments, was still a pretty good dad whenever he was around.

Starflower (deceased)
- Son of Flowering Prose and Starry Nights. Prose was a journalist who worked for the town’s local paper, writing exposés and fluff pieces (with an unfortunate focus on the latter, to his distain). Starry Nights was an….astronomer? Scientist? (I just made these two up on the spot)
- Died pretty young, when Starlight was 9 or 10 years old. Everyone misses him a lot, even grumpy grandpa Golden Canary, who died a few years after him.

‘Lil Red
- Ironically named traveling sales pony, this big hunk of horse is a distant relative of the Apple family, probably kicked out for selling watered down apple juice or something.
- Secret romantic, scared of commitment
- Father of Flim & Flam. He knows they exist and they’ve all met each other but none of them care to pursue a deeper connection than that…not to say Red doesn’t have a distant admiration for his chip off the ole’ block traveling stone sons.
- He met Sunflower (Flim and Flam’s mom) while staying at her inn, he was passing through their small Saddle Arabian hometown hoping to sell some of his wares. He still stops through from time to time to sample the…local delicacies, so to speak….
Jackpot
- Father of Trixie, he met her mother Sunflower in a similar way to her last suitor, passing through their town and in need of a bed for the night he decided to stay at her little inn. He left Sunflower the next morning with a bigger tip than he realized…
- Maybe knows Trixie exists? He never returned to the town after that night, the town was only a stopping point on his way to Las Pegasus, where his career as a magician exploded and he becomes a nationwide star. Sunflower probably told Trixie about her dad after seeing him on the cover of a magazine, but I don’t know if she’d care enough to seek him out.
- A reaaaal sweet talker, Jackpot pretends to be so suave and above it all, but the ponies close to him know he’s secretly naive. There’s a small part of him that’s still that small town magician doing tricks to try and impress the ladies.
Sunflower al-Moona
- Mother of twins Flim and Flam, as well as their younger sister Trixie.
- Sunflower is a kind, motherly mare who supported Trixie in all her various eccentricities and passions, encouraging her to peruse magic even if it meant leaving her to run the family inn.
- Although she’s an empty nester now, with all her kids off traveling the world, she’s never really lonely, finding love in ponies passing through as well as the small joys of everyday life.
ROW 3
Discord
- I’M HOWLIN AT THE MOON
- Absent father of White Rabbit, who is very happy being raised by her moms and really has no interest in her dad, especially not after the disastrous few meetings they’ve had.
- Discord has probably had about a million kids in his immortal lifetime…this isn’t HIS family tree so only Rabbit is included here. His kids aren’t immortal though…which could have something to do with him having trouble connecting to them. Or maybe he’s just a jerk. He’s not someone who’s very in touch with his feelings, he just does things and when they stop being fun to him he dips.
- I wrote some notes on Discord here: Black Hole Sun but I gotta write a more in depth thing on his character at some point
Starlight Glimmer
- Daughter of Firelight Glimmer and Starflower, adoptive mother of White Rabbit and wife of Trixie Lulamoon.
- Trixie and Starlight have another foal down the line, I’ll add her in later.

Trixie Lulamoon
- Daughter of Sunflower al-Moona and Jackpot, mother of White Rabbit and wife of Starlight Glimmer
- Flim and Flam’s little sister! The two were close as kids, definitely had that kinda sibling relationship that’s half harassment, half love. They still exchange letters during their travels across Equestria, bonding over how much they dislike Twilight Sparkle.
- Her last name is an “Equestrianized” version of her mother’s last name, al-Moona.

Flim Skim & Flam Skam
- Twin sons of Sunflower al-Moona and Lil Red, they have a strong relationship with their mother…and I guess they might be able to pick their dad out of a lineup. They haven’t met him many times but they have a passing familiarity, Lil Red likes Sunflower more than he dislikes awkward interactions with his sons.
- I don’t have much thought out for them…Flam is Oleander’s father, but this isn’t Oleander’s family tree so I didn’t add him because I didn’t want to make this more complicated than it already is.
- Yes this makes White Rabbit and Oleander cousins…
ROW 4 (BOTTOM)
White Rabbit
- Daughter of Starlight Glimmer and Trixie Lulamoon, with Discord as her biological (absentee) father.
- Just a little creature…
- She has Discord’s canon eyes because…I designed her before I finalized my Discord headcanon….and I like it too much to change. Just assume Discord’s weird inverted black hole eyes mixed with Trixie’s beautiful cartoon horse eyes make cartoon villain eyes…

IDK if I'll do these for all my nextgens, most of them are pretty simple family structures....I remember in school we had to do a family relationship tree (it's more complicated than a normal family tree cuz it involves relationships, not just linage), I incorporated some adapted elements of that into this...hopefully it's at least 50% understandable
