Synopsis:
Tails and Cosmo go out for a stroll/date/etc. Charmy shows up from out of nowhere and openly challenges Tails for Cosmo's affections, civility and logic as far from his mind as Pluto from the Sun. Tails doesn't get the chance to impress his lady and loses miserably...though Cosmo doesn't seem to mind.
The expanded story is below. Word of warning: it's fairly long. I've also taken liberties with the Cosmo story in that she never died here and one or two minor details.
Miscellaneous Notes:
- The pencils alone took me about 24 hours (through multiple sessions of course). Then the computer touch-ups and coloring...don't even get me started on that!
- I used more references for this picture than anything else I've ever drawn in my life! I'd like to thank VGMuseum.com for perspectives on Tails' foot, ~Shinsengumi9439's picture "Wanna Play?" ([link]) for perspective on Tails' butt, and, most of all, TeamArtail.com for screenshots of "Sonic X" that covered almost every second of my progress.
- Only the second time I've ever drawn Charmy and the first time I've ever drawn him with other characters in the scene. This picture either looks good for my limited experience...or is excused for being crappy because of it.
- First time I've ever drawn Cosmo without having her crying or getting eaten by something. She's actually happy for a change. Huh, that's what people look like when they're not grieving and on a plate? Weird.
- I reworked Cosmo’s design a bit, giving her a shorter, less baggy dress and sleeves that were too long. Since all the Seedrians dress alike, I’m guessing their clothes are standard issue, not a choice. The tailor must have botched Cosmo’s green jacket. However, either being too shy to bring up the mistake or enjoying the sleeves for some reason, she kept them.
Expanded Story:
It is said that the world is a stage and the people in it are players carrying out their roles. Their roles vary from story to story and what may be uplifting for one tale may be devastating to another. If that is the case, then the following can be considered a narrative of triumph, an account of salvation or dirge of defeat based on the player asked.
The story begins on a set known as Tails’ Workshop, home to the curious couple of a two-tailed fox named Miles Prower, better known as Tails, and a rose named Cosmo, no family name inherent in her culture. Tails is known throughout the world as a hero for aiding the exploits of its solemn protector, Sonic the Hedgehog, and using his genius to save and improve the lives around him. Cosmo comes from beyond the stars, from a world wiped out before she ever drew breath. Making a home on Earth, she carries on her society’s customs of nonviolence, education and equality of all ages, creeds and genders. These two found a magnetic attraction towards the other given their similar morals and demeanors. Being of uncanny mental maturity, they live together, free of supervision, outside the city of Station Square making wonders, mechanical and otherwise, for their neighbors to prosper from.
"Miles?" Cosmo called out from the workshop’s kitchen (she felt nicknames were impersonal for addressing loved ones). "Are you ready to go?"
Today was a day the couple had set aside weeks in advance to trek through the nearby jungle for a picnic. While Cosmo had been looking forward to the excursion ever since it was conceived, Tails removed it from his mind, burying himself in his labors. By the time Cosmo finished preparing their food and was ready to leave, Tails was working on machine, waist-deep in engine sludge and tinkering with gaskets that most mechanics wouldn’t even know to examine, let alone charge customers for.
"Go where?" the fox asked. It wasn’t until after he spoke that he realized his fatal error.
"Miles Prower!" Cosmo demanded, marching into his work area with one hand clutching the picnic basket, the other balled up into a fist so tight, air itself could not seep into it. "You very well know 'where!' I did all the work on the food and all I asked was that you just be clean and ready to go!"
"Aren't filth and dirt part of nature? If anything, I'm more prepared to go than you considering-" Tails tried to save himself by overanalyzing the situation.
"Not when the filth is machine oil!" Cosmo fired back, well-versed in fact manipulation herself. "Get cleaned up or...or...Doooh!" She hated confrontations and raising her voice so the best she could do was exhale awkwardly and stomp out of the room.
After exactly thirty minutes, Tails had removed all the sludge from his fur, had his clothes on (what few he wore) and the duo was on its way.
"How could he forget about today!?" Cosmo screamed inside her head, the picnic basket cracking in her iron grip. "He's the brightest mind I know yet he can't keep a date? No, it's that this one wasn't important enough! If Sonic or the President called, we'd be there in less than an hour. But when I need him, it gets thrown to the side!"
"Why does she have to act like this?" Tails sulked to himself, not daring to let Cosmo see him roll his eyes. "She knows how much I hate these nature hikes! I could be finishing the crane Station Square needs but instead, I'm walking around in the blinding son to sit on dirt and watch bugs eat me! How could someone as smart as her waste her time on ridiculous chores like this?"
"I shouldn't be so angry with him though." Cosmo thought upon further inspection. "He's done so much for me taking me into his home...everything that's gotten me here today! I love him for all the good things he does for others and how he never accepts payment but why doesn't he ever do for us?"
"What am I saying?" Tails asked himself as his resolve wavered at the same time. "She's the nicest, most generous person I know and she's helped me so much. I'd still be too scared to talk to anyone but Sonic if it wasn't for her. Still, how can she not see how important my work is?"
Fighting genocidal warlords from other galaxies and psychopathic power-mongers’ robotic armies affected the children in more ways than even their analytic powers could construe. The unrelenting life-and-death scenarios they faced highlighted each other’s loyalty under duress and their compassion for people, namely each other. The plans they formulated to topple their foes allowed them to admire one another’s intellect. The camaraderie and spontaneity of war took what would have been friendship and exploded it into a supernova of love. Unfortunately, after the battles were won, the monotony of peacetime exposed them to a normalcy they had never gone through. Left to their own devices, the two were as opposite as day and night or, more accurately, nature and industry. Their dissimilar interests and opposing schedules took effect overnight and, lacking any common wisdom, they couldn’t discern what caused their sudden love-loss. Clueless and conflicted, they stood idly by and watched their love wither away.
Tails and Cosmo eventually came to a small hill in the jungle’s clearing. They silently agreed to settle down and Cosmo laid out the blanket. The world itself seemed deflated by the lovers’ spat as the breeze that had been blowing by that hill earlier stopped as if on a cue when the couple started reaching into the basket one at a time, averting eye-contact.
After what felt like an eternity but was only three minutes, Tails’ ears picked up a faint droning. Having nothing better to do, he looked to the sky in search of the disturbance but only found the blinding glare of the Sun. Raising his tofu sandwich to shield his eyes, he saw a black dot. (Tails, calling many animals primal foxes would eat ‘friends,’ never liked meat and Cosmo, being a plant, equated vegetarianism with barbarism. The two agreed to eat that which wasn’t meat or vegetable…even if neither had the stomach for it.)
“Is it…getting bigger?” the fox thought aloud as the dot grew in diameter and the droning louder. “No, it’s just moving. ...Right into us!”
Tails pushed Cosmo to the side as what must have been a falling plane crushed him. Fortunately, the ‘plane’ was only a bee Tails’ and Cosmo’s height. The bee was sitting down and leaning forward on his hands, gawking at the startled rose.
“Now that’s what I call a flower!” the bee exclaimed before making a series of howls and hitting himself on the head, apparently indicating an attraction to Cosmo. “You sure you haven’t bloomed yet? ‘Cause I doubt you can get any prettier than you are now!”
“Uh…Thank you, Charmy.” Cosmo replied. Ordinarily, she valued character over appearance and opposed chauvinistic remarks and oafishness. Somehow though, this example spoke to her love of raw emotion and natural freeness.
“Woah! How d’you know my name!?” the bee shrieked, leaning away from Cosmo in shock.
“…I’m Cosmo? We met when the Metarex attacked Earth? You helped Sonic, his friends and I defeat them…?”
“…Oh yeah!” Charmy replied in a volume too loud even for ‘outdoor voices’ and promptly leaned back towards Cosmo. “How ya been?”
“Mmmf errrr mumphuh merrrrr!” a strange mumbling sounded from nowhere.
“Aah! You’re sitting on Miles!” Cosmo replied upon seeing that Charmy was sitting on the pulverized inventor’s face. Charmy raised an eyebrow in confusion. “Tails? The fox with two tails? …Just look under you!”
Charmy’s full name is, shockingly, Charmy Bee. To understand him was to understand Chaos itself. Not the God of Destruction, He had a precise mission and means of executing it, but rather the force that controls what Fate misses that’s baffled history’s brightest minds. He is one third of a detective agency but unlike his co-workers, uses no deductions or knowledge of crime. Instead, his boundless curiosity and lack of respect for others, or the evidence cycle, uncovers factoids most wouldn’t notice. When he isn’t needed, his tantrums are…unappreciated by his partners so he is released into the unsuspecting world.
“What are you doing here?” Tails demanded after catching his breath when Charmy moved over to release him.
“The pretty girl, duh!” Charmy answered, pointing directly at Cosmo, almost poking her eye.
“Thank you for the compliment, but I’m afraid you’re too late.” Cosmo commented, feeling a strange fluttering in her heart.
“How?” Charmy asked, turning to Cosmo and almost smacking Tails’ face with his wings. “You’re still here! It’s not like I ya left!”
“Not like that!” Tails moaned. “We’re seeing each other!”
“Well, duh!” Charmy shot back. “I see ya. She sees ya. …Heck, she sees me seeing you!”
“We’re spoken for!” the agitated fox reworded.
“Whose speakin’ for ya? Woah! Are you like puppets or something!?” the oblivious bee asked.
“We’re dating each other!” roared the fox, reaching his patience’s end.
Charmy examined the lovers for a few seconds. “…No you’re not.”
“He’s not bluffing Charmy.” Cosmo stated, filling in for Tails’ nerves. “We are dating one another. We don’t mean to be coarse with you but we’re having a bad day.”
Cosmo eagerly followed Tails’ and Charmy’s ‘battle of wits.’ She couldn’t help but repress a chuckle every time Charmy contributed. She wasn’t sure if he had a good sense of humor or a terrible grasp on reality. Whatever the case, she hadn’t laughed for quite some time before that day.
“It’s probably for the best if you give us some space today.” Tails suggested, calming down after a very long sigh. “Come see us another time. We just gotta cool off…and recover from you crashing into my head. It’s nothing personal, we just don’t wanna blame you for something you’re not involved in.”
Taking this all in, Charmy stood up and walked to the edge of the hill’s crest. He folded his arms behind him and stared at the sky to think. He raised his hand to silence Tails and Cosmo every time they tried to say something for about one minute before finally concluding,
“You’re having troubles in the sack.”
“Huh?” Tails and Cosmo asked in unison, neither one of them familiar with the terminology.
“I don’t know,” Charmy answered, turning to them. “It’s something Vector said when he thought this one lady attacked her husband and it turned out he was right. He says it means a boyfriend and girlfriend aren’t getting along and they should break up instead of keeping the neighbors up with their stupid arguments…You two should break up.”
“What!?” fox and rose demanded.
“When I was flying down to Pretty Cosmo, you two weren’t looking at each other. And the whole time Tails was yelling at me, you didn’t say anything to each other. And you still aren’t looking at each other!” Charmy reasoned, his co-workers seemingly rubbing off on him.
“That’s crazy!” Tails rebuked, standing up. “We’re just having a bad day! We’ve been through a lot together and…I really think you should leave now, Charmy.”
“Hey, I got an idea!” Charmy shouted, completely ignoring Tails. “I shall do battle with Lord Prower and the victor wins the right to be Fair Lady Cosmo’s companion, lover and knight.”
Where Charmy came up with those words is a mystery for another day. More pertinent was his audacity. Fun as he had been, Cosmo was appalled by violence, especially when it treated her like an object to be won. She stood up and grabbed the basket.
“That’s enough Charmy. We’re leaving now.”
“Fine!” Tails shouted. “If you really wanna fight, then I’ll do it!”
“What!?” Cosmo’s jaw dropped.
“We’ve tried reasoning with him, Cosmo.” Tails explained. “If he really wants to waste his time on this then I won’t stop him!”
“Miles!” Cosmo yelled. “This is ridiculous! Let’s just-”
“Awesome!” Charmy interrupted. “Watch me Pretty Cosmo! This is all for you!”
Tails’ limbs twitched from adrenaline flow as he marched up to Charmy, who only grinned in return. Ordinarily, Tails was a pacifist but that day, his tensions were running high from his argument with Cosmo and his inability to understand what their problem was. Combined with Charmy’s entrance, his density and his brazenness to imply he wasn’t right for Cosmo, even he was pushed to his limits.
Cosmo would go to the ends of the Earth for Tails but couldn’t understand or condone what he was doing. She wanted nothing to do with the fight and was shaken to her core to see Tails giving in to it. He looked nothing like the fox she fell in love with.
As for Charmy, whatever was going through his head was too random to be considered thought. Nevertheless, it certainly wasn’t tension or anxiety.
The fox blew small tsunamis through his nostrils, gnashed his predatory fangs and stood every hair on his back and tails on end. Frightening as he may have appeared, however, he showed no signs of knowing how to start a fight. Fortunately, Charmy was willing to start things for him.
“Boo!” the bee yelled, causing Tails to blink and step back out of surprise.
As he regained his composure, Tails saw Charmy guffawing at his own antics. While, Cosmo saw it as a harmless gesture and was relieved the opening attack wasn’t as violent as she feared it would be, Tails’ blood boiled at the way his adversary treated everything like a joke and showed no honor. Tails curled his fingers into the first fist he ever made and swung it forward. Charmy easily ducked and Tails wound up spinning 180 degrees from the momentum of his misfired attack.
“Too slow!” Charmy taunted as he wrapped his arms around Tails’ and locked his hands together behind his head, much to the awe of Cosmo and Tails himself.
The fox struggled to get free but only succeeded in showing how much weaker he was than his opponent. The bee didn’t even notice the escape attempts and leisurely pushed Tails’ head forward and pulled his arms back in a move known the world over as the Full Nelson.
“Gah! L-let go of me!” Tails growled through his teeth as he started to feel the pressure.
“Is that it?” Charmy asked. “Man, this is way too easy! Time to kick it up a nawtch!”
With that, Charmy amplified his attack by leaning back. Paralyzed by pain and literally powerless to save himself, Tails was lifted off the ground. Clearly lacking any fighting prowess, all the fox could do was clench his fists, grind his teeth and tighten every muscle in his body as his legs and arms dangled, tears involuntarily formed in his eyes and the pain ate at his neck like locusts to a cornfield.
“Thank the stars.” Cosmo sighed, walking over to Charmy’s side. “I was afraid you two were going to seriously hurt each other. Still, can you please put Miles down? He’s not much of a fighter so this hurts him more than you think.”
“But I only stretch him little!” Charmy replied in a poor Russian accent, keeping his eyes on his motionless foe or, rather, playmate.
With a small giggle, Cosmo tried to put an end to this. “I know, and you win. Howev-”
She stopped dead in her tracks, not so much as a breath leaving her mouth. She felt a light grazing on her cheek. Shifting her eyes to the afflicted area, her suspicions were confirmed. Charmy, whilst holding Tails up, effortlessly gave her a kiss. Her face fully flushed, her knees buckled beneath her and her eyes widened and glistened in the Sun. She knew her feminist self-respect dictated she be disgusted by this display of chauvinism and she knew her bottomless concern for Tails urged her to help him in his time of need. However, she knew something else, something far more moving to her at the moment.
Her frustrations with Tails, the way she went through the motions with their romance and the confusing fixation she had on Charmy all made sense to her now. Tails was as mechanical as the wonders he made, preferring a lightbulb to Sunlight and shunning the world to keep to his work. She, on the other hand, treated every day like a poem, each beautiful and unique in its own way. As for Charmy, he was guided only by his whimsical thirst for adventure. There was no rationality in his actions, just bold-faced joy and freedom. She realized that her life with Tails had been lacking something as of late: passion. She was stifled under Tails rigid lifestyle but felt uplifted by Charmy’s simplicity. She lost herself in his small, but overwhelmingly powerful, gesture of love and basked in it.
On the opposite side of the life-loving, bee was Tails. The pain, something he was unaccustomed to, consumed his every thought. The humiliation of losing to someone younger than himself, the disgrace of losing a fight that he morally should be winning, even the fact that he currently wasn’t touching the ground never reached him. He couldn’t move, couldn’t speak or resist, just hope that his attacker would let him go soon, unaware that he had metaphorically swept his lover off her feet. All he knew was that at this rate, the agony would overwhelm him and he would lose consciousness in less than thirty seconds.
Right where he wanted to be, Charmy only had one coherent thought, “And, the curtain falls…”

I love this picture a lot! I'm just letting you know because Yobashan and many other rabid Tailsmo fans have been very rude to me and several of my friends lately. I don't like to get involved in shipping wars, but it's very disheartening to see nothing but comments like that on Charsmo pics, especially since it's a rare yet lovely pair.

I'm no stranger to rabid fans (one picture I have of Cream beating up Tails got a lot of angry comments too) but thank you for stepping in on the angry comments. Sorry to hear people have been giving you grief over such silly things.
I don't ship myself, just draw what I feel like drawing, so shipwars have never been a big a deal to me. I feel characters should be strong enough to stand on their own, so all the angry comments over what characters belong together always struck me as strange, especially when people get as burnt up about as they do.
It's true that Charsmo is a rare pairing. Really stinks that the few times it pops up, people get up in arms about it. It probably doesn't help that my picture has Tails getting beat up but again, I draw what I like, not shipwars.

You're very welcome. I love to ship all kinds of pairings, but I strongly dislike shipping wars and avoid them at all costs. I don't mind pictures of characters fighting as long as they're not anti-art of any kind. I've noticed a lot of Tailsmo and Chaream fans automatically think that anyone who doesn't ship or dislikes either of those 2 pairings hate Cream or Cosmo. I find it very strange and stupid as well because liking/disliking a ship has absolutely nothing to do with liking/disliking a character themselves. Since I don't like seeing any of the Sonic characters being abusive towards each other, I drew 2 pics of random Grayfaces (that represent the insane shipping fandoms) gettting hurt by Tails and Charmy. They're mostly rants against the rude fans I was telling you about as well as the rude Sonic shippers in general.

I can understand hating a character and wanting to tell people about it (I'm that way about The Hulk). But if you're gonna hate somebody, hate them for their own merits and not just who they're dating. Too many times I see people flat-out loathe characters simply because they interfere with their OTP; any and all fanart they do to bash the character is solely for romantic politics and not because of their personality, design, implementation, etc. It's so shallow and pointless.
Like you said, just about none of the Sonic-pairings are actually cannon, so I don't know why shippers can't just get along, or at least tolerate each other. Fanart's just for fun, so why get so worked up about it? Kind of ironic that so many people are filled with hate over characters being in love, isn't it? Of course, that happens all the time in real life too, so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.
I just looked at your pictures and read over parts of your epic rants. Very good points all and I love the brutality of the pictures and how the characters are all so happy about it.
Funny thing about this picture, I didn't make it to promote or dismiss any couples at all. I just like playing around with Tails and thought this'd be a funny scene; I think Cosmo may have actually been a last-minute addition. Funny how I've gotten a handful of shipping comments, but romance was the last thing on my mind.

I wouldn't be so quick there. Tails seems to prefer staying to the back and coaching the team these days, but Charmy's always itching for a fight...even if they didn't invite him to Sonic Battle.

DC Comics normally makes me think of reboots as a bad thing, but I think a reboot is the best thing for the Sonic series now. I hate the one-story games they have these days and all the pointless characters they introduce in them. Heck, knowing that Tails shows up in every game just to do the same thing over and over seems dull now too (at least when you could play as him, he was an action guy AND an intel guy). A reboot could give them a chance to start a new continuity and stick to it, building on Sonic and whatever characters show up instead of burying most of the cast every game.
Gameplay-wise, I heard some interesting things about the reboot too. Not crazy about them adopting a Skylanders gimmick, but I've seen those figures sell 3 for $20. The price isn't nearly as bad as it could be.

I wouldn't know about another comic doing a reboot, considering how I only read Archie comics, my knowledge of other comics is extremeley limited. I hate the one story games too, they're stupid, they have a below average plot, clunky gameplay, mediocre sound, and even worse characters who no one cares about. And what's even worse, is that old chharcters are losing their touch (so to speak). Let's look at Tails for example... backmin the day he was an intel character, but he was also an original playable charcter with differences from Sonic and Knuckles. Now he is an unplayable coward that makes Brad Vickers from Resident Evil Nemesis look like Flash Gordan. What happened there?, I don't know. But if characters like tails And Knuckles keep getting abused, then what hope is there?. Speak of the devil, let's look at Knuckles. Knuckles started off as an unplayable character who would hinder you're progress, in many instances he appeared playable. A year later we're introduced to Sonic And Knuckles, a game which many consider to be the greatest Sonic game of all time. Knuckles ran slower, couldn't jump as high as Sonic or tails, but he had one ability that made him unique, gliding. With the ability to glide, Knuckles could go almost anywhere. But later in the series that all dissapeared, and what was one of the most entertaining characters to play as became nothing more than comic relief.

DC Comics and comics as a whole aren't what I was really getting at. I only mention them because DC is infamous for doing A LOT of reboots and most of those reboots normally throw out decades' worth of stories. Because of this, the word "reboot" makes me nervous whenever I hear it in regards to anything, including video games, TV shows, etc. Even with my fear of reboots though, I think the Sonic games need one by now.
I don't know who Brad Vickers is (though I know the game), but I would like to see Tails as Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers. And I agree with you 100% on what's happening to the old cast. We all know about Tails, but I was really surprised to see Knuckles go the route of village idiot. He used to be the most badass character in the 90's and early 00's, even after Shadow debuted. Somewhere along the line though, people got it in their head that his only character trait was "gullible." Worse yet, that eventually became "dumbass" and now, he's just a punching bag for jokes and resembles nothing of what made him so cool back in the diz-ay (crappy rap music and all). I wanna say that Sonic X played a role in that, but Amy didn't turn into a psychotic warmonger and it actually took them a while to turn Tails chicken after that show ran its course, so Knuckles' devolution may have been solely the work of Sega or the studios they rented him out to. He's just more proof that the current formula doesn't work and if there is a reboot, I hope he can come back and reclaim his former glory.

Sorry for the late reply, it's not easy falling from main character status, is it?. Why do characters such as Shadow, Silver, and what not get all the attention?. I remember when Tails was one of the most broken characters in all of Sonic, as a matter of fact, if I compare Tails abilities to that of Shadow's or Silver's he'd actually come out on top. Shadow can ran out of energy quickly without his inhibitor rings on, and Silver tends to get a bit dizzy and clumsy if he overuses his abilities. Not only that, but Tails has built a lot of inventions over the years, and I think it's fair to say that Shadow wouldn't be so ultimate afterwards.

Although Tails could do a lot of stuff in gameplay, storylines always made him just a little slower, just a little weaker and just a little less competant than Sonic. I can see him not being as good as Shadow (Sonic's super-powered clone/predecessor) and Silver (powerful telekinetic), but him running away from regular mooks is just plain insulting. Sonic Adventure through Sonic Heroes seemed to imply that Tails was improving and getting right up there with the Blue Blur himself, but then all of his character development just disappeared into thin air. Sure, his tech savvy seems to have steadily increased, but all he makes anymore are scanners, translators or engines. As I recall, he's been cool with breaking robots since day one and always seemed to favor building vehicles and weapons, not just literal plot devices.
As bad as Tails' fall from grace was, at least he has his techno geek tendencies to fall back on. The likes of Knuckles, Amy and even Shadow have pretty much fallen off the face of the planet because they either have action-heavy roles Sonic Team would rather give to Sonic or relied more on their character to show up in games than their combat effectiveness. Again, a reboot would be a welcome change of pace to seeing the cast dance around in the background or not appear at all. Hopefully a reboot would have fewer characters and make more use of them.

Yes, just look at Sonic 3. He can fly, run nearly as fast as Sonic, and he has a super form (with added flickies). So would anyone mind telling me what the hell happened?. As past games have taught us, Tails is filled to the brim with potential. After the Adventure and Heroes titles, Tails was just thrown off the planet, never to be played as again, okay, sure he's playable in mere party games and a few racers, but what's the point?. When will be able to play as Tails in a SONIC game?. This is one of the reasons why Sonic needs a reboot.

I always deferred to the storylines for characters' abilities and I think the game developers have too. Seeing as how Tails as a character was never as fast as Sonic, that's probably why he got slower and weaker over time, even if the gameplay had him as a game-breaker. That's probably why Tails got so badly demoted even after his entire story arc in Adventure was that he is just as good as Sonic...either that, or Sonic Team has been watching too much Sonic X.
I really miss playing as Tails...or anyone other than Sonic. Sonic's awesome, but you don't give him a cast as big as his and then just cut us off from them.
As much as I want a reboot, I'm not sure if Tails would become any more playable for it. From what I heard, the only characters that would absolutely, positively appear in post-reboot games would be Sonic and Robotnik; everybody, including Tails, may be gone or replaced from there on out. My guess is that they'd reboot the game to better support the notion that all Sonic games these days only have Sonic doing anything, so his new supporting cast would probably be smaller and introduced to us as not being as good as Sonic so that we never scratch our heads and wonder why we can't play as So-and-So or Whatshisface. Of course, I'm hoping that the reboot will allow us to play as more than just Sonic and bring Tails and Knuckles back to the forefront.

Mmmhmm, no one will ever be as fast as Sonic, but that's no reason to make Tails weaker. He's Sonic's sidekick for crying out loud. As a matter of fact, he proved to be MORE than a sidekick in the adventure series. He saved Station Square when Sonic wasn't around, surely Tails should get credit where it's due.
I agree, he was broken. But so was Sonic in a way, remember the instasheild?, it preety much made mincemeat to bosses. So why hasn't he gotten demoted?. Main character immunity perhaps?.
I would love to get to play as the main trio again. But, I have good news for you, SEGA has finally realised that in order to constantly make good games such as Colours and Generations, they have realised they need to spend more than one year on Sonic games. So, therefore, they're going to spend at least two years on Sonic games. Doesn't that fill you with hope?.

Though I'm normally one to nitpick continuity like any other self-respecting nerd, my pictures tend to do whatever the crap they want, and "Tails losing" is normally at the top of that want-list. If you read the (painfully long) story, you'd see this is set in its own timeline and that I took some of liberties where I felt like it, hence the WTFery you see before you.

NINJA PLEASE!XDCharmy has NO fighting experience whatsoever and only ran into fights, cause he has a bad case of short man syndrome. Also charmys not a ghost so why would tails be afraid of him? I also respect Tails as a character more due to his character development throught the story and hes been a neccesary ally and friend for sonic, while contributing a ton to the series. So you may say that tails has become weak well think about it? hasent all the support cast. Even popular characters like shadow are denied screen time just so sonic can look like more of a hero in recent games, so of course they will diminish personalities to make sonic seem more heroic for helping them. If you take a look at sonic chronicles(which was after unleashed) it showed tails at his peak, not only could he fight but he could lead the team while showing true courage and no fear. He dident even run when omega was about to kill him cause Omega though tails was crazy for trusting eggman. So what has charmy done?....... nada bro. He was the WORST character in knuckles chaotix(yes I play and own the game) and was only brought back for the purpose of being a flight type in sonic heroes(since mighty cant fly

Having hung around the Chaotix for so long, Charmy definitely has fighting experience. And if anything, a Napoleon Complex would make him more dangerous 'cause he has everything to prove, Tails doesn't do well against berserkers and on top of all that, Charmy isn't that much smaller than Tails, so there really isn't a size advantage for the fox to exploit. Charmy may not be a ghost, but knowing that there's one thing Tails fears that he doesn't means that Charmy is that much more fearless in battle than Tails.
I love Tails' characterization too (he's my favorite in the series), but good characterization doesn't always mean good self-defense skills. Most characters have lost screentime in the last few games, but Tails is the only one who lost fighting ability as well. The few appearances that guys like Shadow and Knuckles make still show them being strong and capable fighters. Heck, even Amy retained her grit and determination in Unleashed even after nearly getting...danced to death? Anyway, Tails is the only one who has gotten any worse at fighting as of late whereas Charmy is still as plucky and raring to go as the day he debuted. Tails didn't run when Omega set his guns on him, but he definitely observed that the machine was dangerous and, more importantly, had back-up from Shadow (Omega's friend) and Robotnik (who'd know how to turn him off) in case things went South. Charmy, on the other hand, was able to cause real damage to Metal Sonic in his Metal Overlord/Madness form despite it having so much power, and he did it with a smile on his face. Sure, everyone else hurt MS too (though none with as much glee), but compare Tails facing a walking chaingun to Charmy facing a metallic Godzilla, then compare their emotions in both. While Tails is assessing the situation, Charmy will be too busy Zergrushing him, and Tails' reflexes ain't what they used to be. Going back to Tails' combat abilities in Chronicles, he was more of a saboteur and field commander while his physical attacks were more or less an afterthought.
While I can't speak for Knuckles Chaotix (kudos to you for actually finding a copy), I would be remiss if I didn't say Charmy was the worst of a group that consisted of Knuckles and people on Knuckles' level. Being the worst in a group of badasses isn't necessarily a bad thing, and Tails would have likely been just as effective/ineffective as Charmy if he were in that game given their similar ages and physiques. In Heroes, I'd say Charmy was actually the best, or at least most badass, of the fliers. I believe he could fly the longest out of any of the flying characters and he's the only one who didn't use a weapon to fight when he was solo. Bombs are nice, but hiding behind them just means you're less-equipped to handle a fist fight. A fist fight that Charmy dives into giddy as a kid in a candy shop.
Lastly, Charmy's never been depicted as a cry baby. Tails has cried (for good reason) and Tails has repeatedly stated how scared he was in situations (mostly around ghosts). Charmy, however, always approaches battles with a burning desire to kick some ass and has fun doing it. At the end of the day, Tails is ultimately a peace-loving and mellow guy (only using violence when necessary) whereas Charmy is ready to throw down whenever and wherever. In a pointless sparring match like the on in this picture, Charmy will always have the advantage; heck, Charmy might even have to go to extremes like threatening the world or blowing up Sonic (allegedly) to get Tails to show any fight.
That being said, it would have been nice to see Marine in Generations as I actually like her loud, obnoxious accent (if nothing else, it befits a child who hasn't fully grown up). Though Mighty didn't get invited to Heroes, he at least enjoys semi-frequent appearances in the Archie comics, so it's not all bad for him.
I'm glad you like my style so much, in spite of hating my scene so much. Hopefully, I've only gotten better since this one...though you'd probably hate all of my other stuff too. I'm a bigger Tails fan than a Charmy fan, so it won't be painful for me to watch...even if I'll never be able to believe it. Plus, knowing that my audacity actually drove somebody to respond to it alone will be fun enough for me! Muahahaha!

Haha, you really make me laugh with your attempts to prove me wrong. Obviously your emotions are interfering with charmys character in general. I mean seriously why would charmy go blow up sonic to get tails pissed when hes too young to know about that sort of twisted manipulation or to care for such? hes six bro and obviously youve been writing too much fanfiction to see that. So let me just break up your obvious mistakes in your very sad attempt at proving me wrong.
1.)Um I like how you try to make it seem like charmy was a major factor in taking down metal madness, but really it was him and 8 other people. Not to mention they were just were holding him off so team sonic could really end him. Im pretty sure tails was in team sonic my friend and agreed to help sonic in the close range combat with the "metallic Godzilla" showing his courage by raming the beast himself(team blast) while charmy was too busy throwing espio an vector at him. So really tails faced a chaingun and a metallic godzilla along with worst.
2.) charmy is a little more than half of tails size.(so yea theres a size difference
3.)In knuckles chaotix charmy was the worst due to his small size(harder to kill robots when your spin jump is so small) also he had the lowest jump with very short flying(which is useless in the game) While in classic games tails had the highest jump out of him sonic,and knuckles.Also due to him being bigger it was much eaiser to kil badniks with his spin jump while his flying was twice the time of charmy. So I would have prefered tails
4.) Cream was the best flight type, since her gauge was bigger than all the flight types(they probobly did this since team rose is a beginner team) so in the end she is the best not charmy. Also hiding behind bombs shows weakness? tell that to rouge who would drop kick you before you could even glance at her boobs.
5.) Now lets talk about combat, just because charmy hangs around team chaotix doesnt mean they train him in karate or MMA. they are just detectives who do odd jobs to barley pay their debt. In fact him being reckless and having his emotion for fighting would only weaken his ability to fight. If charmy charged at tails, Charmy would do a war cry already ruining his element of surprise. This would alert tails quick witted thinking to dodge charmys takle(cause lets be real here charmys six and isent going to pull off any roundhouse kicks)Btw tails had the second best evasiveness in sonic chronicles statistically. So if he could dodge elite nocturne soilders blades then he could dodge an enraged bee. See tails being calm would be able to analze a situation much better than charmy. Also how I know that he has fast side steps because when mind controlled by eggman in sonic colors. Tails blocked sonic from going around him at super speeds. Also his gimmick of machine based support was belived to be with his magic hand tool that was used in sonic battle were he took down guard robos. sure emeral helped but not that much since he was still babyish with limited advance moves. So tails can dodge and manipulte machines with his magic hand(from shields to arm cannons)When things become serious tails always shows his true brave side(like a wolf in sheeps clothing) when eggman "killed" sonic, and had amy at gunpoint in sa2. Tails looked up and told eggman that he would never give up, in the end tails defeated eggman again. When has charmy singe-handedly defeated a foe? Well ill awnser that for you....no. As for the whole srength thing in sonic the fighters(were tails still wooped ass without technoligy) he could airplane drop bark like he was a small rock. Not to mention he could tackle and knock down bowser in Sonic and Mario at the olympic games easily(so dropping a small 6 year old bee is... well easy.) All charmy has going for his strength is the fact that he flew with vector and espio around his knees, but that was obviously was exagerated since cream doesent have hulk strength but could hold a cat that is huge and amy.

I always believe in something that has ligitamite reason to back it up and that cannot be questioned easily.
