Description One of my favorite images! I went out one day looking for things to photograph, and what do you know: One of my favorite pieces wasn't even in the river, ha ha. My friend and I found the skeletal remains of two fish, one being a gar and the other a probable bowfin, the latter which is pictured. I'd actually never seen a bowfin before (but they do inhabit my state), so it was very interesting to see! It was almost a full skeleton (excluding its tail), but for photographic purposes, I found this angle best. The species has supposedly existed since the Jurassic Period, and is actually the only remaining, living Amiiforme.

LOCATION: Bank of the Tar River, North Carolina
CAMERA: iPhone 4 or Kodak EasyShare; I actually cannot recall which I used...
PRIVACY NOTIFICATION: "Marie" is not my last name, but rather my middle.

Hehe I actually wanted to. xD So badly, really... I'm very intrigued by bones and the anatomy of fish in general, and this was such a rare find! It was a beautiful creature indeed, but the ribs especially were infested with fire ants... so... we allowed the bowfin to lie, lol. I just hope no one has so e anything cruel to it. It's a pretty heavily-observed area, but it would be no surprise if some fools chose to throw it around or whatever. But I was happy to at least have a photograph to honor its pulchritude. Thanks for the comment! c:

psh, fireants would not stop me
even though I'm allergic XD

Good that you got pictures though

I hope not, most people are assholes though
it is possible someone would take it home when the ants finish their feast and it is not disturbed

and my pleasure c:

Lol, dedication right there! xD  I prolly would've picked up it if not for those ants... considering as you said, it would NOT be fun having that in my room once the ants got "curious." x__x  I do hope it lies undisturbed, though. \:  Too many inconsiderate people out there...

Just could shove him in a bag or container and let him sit in your backyard for a few weeks if you go back and he is still there if you want c:

And yeah :I
Most people leave stuff like that alone because it is "gross" unless they crush it or fling it into the river with a stick

... You, fellow deviant, are a genius. xD  I'm definitely gonna look into that!  Hopefully it'll still be there... it was a real beauty to find.

I know, right? :/  It's absolutely terrible. :<
