Description
"Uh...hi there, little one," Rhododendron says nervously, not really sure how to react to the newborn staring expectantly at him. The foal tilts his head, narrowing his eyes in discomfort as he becomes wary of the tall stranger not saying anything to him.

"Buttons, I can't do this," the unicorn stallion says, shaking his head and running a hoof through his mane.

The foal's mother has been standing out of sight, watching the scene unfold before her. She sighs and places a hoof to her face in disbelief, her mane disheveled and her face sunken from exhaustion.

"You're unbelievable, Rhodo," Buttons says, shaking her head sadly. "I think it's best if you go."

The mare holds the door to the temporary, run-down apartment for the stallion to leave. She makes sure to shut the door a little harder than necessary, locking it to keep out anypony else. She slides down the door to a sitting position on the floor, burying her face in her hooves. She feels a tug at her wing, and she removes her head from her hooves to look down at the pair of beautiful, blue, little eyes that stare up at her in worry. She brushes away a tear that has not had the chance to fall, sniffling as she takes her newborn into her arms and nuzzles his now happy face with hers.

"We don't need him, Stitches. It's just you and me now," Buttons says, placing a kiss on the colt's horn.

When Stitches was born and while his mother was pregnant with him, his father, Rhododendron, was nowhere to be found. A few weeks after Stitches was born, Rhodo came back suddenly, and Buttons allowed him to see his son for the first and last time. When Rhodo saw his son, he did not know how to react, and Buttons decided it was best for both her and her son if Rhodo never came by again!
