Seriously people.I am disabling comments cuz I don't like arguing with people, it makes me very angry (yes I have probably have anger problems >.< )
I'll just give what I want to say here, and if you disagree, that's fine, but I dont' want to hear it.

My definition:
Anything where the creator had the intention of it being so.
Anime is art. And I don't care if you think the fans are annoying, then complain about them, not the style itself. Art is very important to me and to other anime artists. Anime is not a singular style but a genre of styles. There are so many differences between different anime that if you put characters from one show (or manga) in another it would look very strange and misplaced. Anime is not a simple or easy style. It takes a lot of pratice and it also takes a lot of skill since it is coming from your own thoughts rather than reference. Anime shows are not stupid either. Some are, of course, but that goes for all things. Anime has many genres and many stories and though some are similar, there are some that are very original, as with everything. Anime is not copying someones style, because as I said before, it is not one singular style. I've seen anime that are very cartoony, almost old disney cartoony and anime that is very close to realism. People need to shutup and leave anime and anime artists alone. There's usually a reason something is popular and anime is fun to draw and beautiful as well. And it is NOT the most common art form on DA so don't say "it's everywhere" because it's not unless you're looking for it.
This stamp is not about fanart but anime art in general.
I think I've said all things that need to be said.

According to what I hear, some of the main reason why people are complaining about anime are like this:
- infantile and overused
- leaves no room for one's talent to surface since everyone is drawing the same way
What annoys me the most, is how most people (and the DeviantART management is no exception) tend to consider it a distinct art style. Excuse me, but anime is not an art style. It's a word. It means 'cartoon', just like manga means 'comic'. Every artist has his or her own style, and if some people are having trouble making a difference between Takashi Rumiko and Kanzaka Hajime, well, it's their problem. I can't tell the difference between Frank Miller and Al Rio. Maybe because... I barely know anything about American comics. My own style may be nothing like "conventional anime style" but I insist on using the word for it instead of "traditional".
What I DON'T like about it however, is seeing it abused on a regular basis. But I have the same issues with people yelling around random Japanese words because they think it sounds cool or smart. I swear if I were Japanese (right now "distant relative" will have to do) I'd feel like being raped whenever I see or hear anything like this (though I do feel a bittersweet taste of satisfaction seeing the civilized west degrade like this - I call it the "revenge of the samurai" ^_^).

yeah All anime styles are different, and there are so many ways to draw it too ^^ I've seen anime/manga that is very cartoony ([link] ) and some that is very realistic ([link] ).
But yes people who obsess with anything that could possibly have any connection with anime are pretty annoying, but you know, let em do what they want ^^

To tell the truth, I am haing troubles with telling kawaii apart from Kawai (a guy from the "Friendship of Japan" organization I've met a few months ago - I felt a strong urge to say "that's a cute name" - Thank the One I managed to hold my mouth).

There's also "Kowai" which is scary XD It's hilarious to hear fantard at cons tell people how kowai their costumes are!

Well, probably the best way to avoid it is to either remain in obscurity, or avoid making deals with the corporations and stay independent. It's like contracting the Devil. Quick way to fame and power, big fall, once they don't need you.

what actually amuses me is that they have no serious reason for it.
if they'd just say"i don't like it" it'd be understandable, but hearing American kids saying "anime sucks because it's anatomically incorrect" isn't just retarded, it's ironic.
maybe i should point out that American cartoons look much worse. for Pete's sake, the nose is on the side of the face and the ears one above the other and the head the size of a disco ball!!

I'm American and I LOVE anime. In case those other American losers don't know, anime is a greater anatomy teacher than regular boring art teachers. If they don't like anime, fine, but if they wanna complain about it they need to tell it to people who give a shit! 'Cause I sure as hell don't!!! Am I right?

well, american cartoons in the 90 had some very good art anatomy-wise, but as soon as corporate big heads realised that kids didn't care (or could tell very well) about graphics, tehy said "what the heck, let's draw scribbles, it'll be cheaper and the brats will still buy our toys!"
thusly, the end of good art in american cartoons began..

I agree, the only cartoons that are drawn well are usually disney movies, and I count those as movies, not cartoons. Everything else is drawn very simply, I think mainly for cuteness or ease of animating.

i saw a great one this year: i went to visit paris and went to the top of the eiffel tower. i saw a plaque that said "the eiffel tower is a french symbol of freedom and triumph..." and underneath someone scribbled "made in spain"
