Well, it's a language abuse in fact, but small pocket pistols (flintlock or not) are often qualified as "Derringer" because of its wide reputation.

Well, for me the blade is technically the "useful" part of any kind of sword, dagger, knife, rapier and so on. In french, it's "une lame" but it's never used to qualify a knife.
