Description This custom was made for the Egyptian swap on mlp arena. I designed and made her for my partner *lovelauraland

She is sculpted with super sculpey and apoxie sculpt and rehaired with dollyhair nylon in various colours. I painted her with acrylic paints (including metalic blue and gold) and sealed her with matte and gloss sealers. She has small diamontes on her wings.

The wings are inspired by ~Carboncast [link]

Hi again!!! i have a question, how do you make the pony's hair flat and smooth? I saw other people, and their pony's hair on the mane is.. standing up like a ''mohawk''. I am planning to make a custom too, but i don't want the hair to stand like a mohawk. how do you do it?

Once I have rerooted the hair (I use Dollyhair) and have glued it on the inside, I wash it with lukewarm water and use a gentle conditioner (any will do)then I rinse this out. Once this is done I style the hair (sometimes I do pin curls or a boil perm to get long ringlet curls). If you want nice flat straight hair just comb it when it's wet and either wrap it around the head to keep it from sticking up until its dry or use some really hot water and dunk it in. Hot water 'teaches' the hair to stay the way you want which is why boil perms are really effective at keeping the hair curly for ever! You can also use a hair straightener but be very careful not to let it touch the hair too long. Always let it heat up then turn it off, wait a minute or two then use it. Hope this helps!

Ahh.. Okay. So, i have to wash the hair with warm water, wash it with conditioner, brush it.. and i don't really get this part:

"If you want nice flat straight hair just comb it when it's wet and either wrap it around the head to keep it from sticking up until its dry or use some really hot water and dunk it in." I need to wrap the hair around the head, and it will take the form of the head? (the neck)

I just meant if you can hold it down either with your hands or some paper/hair bands until it's dry it'll stay close to the head and not stick up

your welcome! i have a question: for what ages is apoxie clay?
Just asking. And, were you supposed to wear a mask, and gloves to work with it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

padawanclaramel In reply to Blueyblue66 [2011-04-30 01:24:40 +0000 UTC]

You don't need a mask unless you are sanding it but it's recommended that you wear gloves when mixing the two parts of the clay together. After that you can just use your hands Do you mean how long it takes to dry (2-3 hours)? or for what age of person? I'd say as long as the clay is mixed properly it shouldn't matter the age (perhaps not a young child but a 10 year old would be fine).

okay. and, i heard that if i make a mistake, it will never dry.. is that true? do i have to sand it or is it optional? and, i will be 12 in a few days. is it fine for me?

padawanclaramel In reply to Blueyblue66 [2011-05-01 07:27:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh 12 is fine just make sure you wear the gloves when mixing. It won't work if you have large differences between the two clays but if you roll two balls that are close to the same size (one of each type of clay) then mix you won't have any problems with it not drying. You don't have to sand, to get a nice smooth finish I have a glass of water handy. I dip my fingers in that and then run it over the clay to get a smooth finish.
Hope this helps

thanks! i didnt knew that dipping my fingers in the water and running them on the clay would get it a good finish.

Thankyou! Don't be humiliated, we all have to start somewhere with our art and the more you do the better you get! My first attempts at customs weren't that great and even now I'm not totally happy with my work. I see my art as a learning ground, each time I create something I strive to improve my skills. Don't forget that we ourselves are the always most critical of our own work and to others we have created something bautiful!

Oh wow! That's so amazing. n w n You know, when I was looking up references for the wings on my picture, I actually used another egyptian my little pony: [link] I ended up changing the design quite a bit, but I think it's so cool that it ended up going full circle if you know what I mean. > w < And of course your pony looks amazing; you did a great job on painting all the teeny details!
