that's why my headcannon is the reason you can pick your own name is that shep has a first name they're embarrassed by like Preston or Gertrude; admit it you'd just go by shepard tooΒ

THAT is exactly what allways has bothered me... even the person you are together with doesnΒ΄t even say your name, or (in the german version of the game... because we donΒ΄t just say "You" but also "Du/Sie/Ihr...") the loved one allways says "Sie", which is totally akward... because people in a couple, or even persons who just know each other say "Du" you only say "Sie" to someone you respect in a way like... your boss for example...

it is... I mean german is a bit harder than english because of thet possibilitys, but the guys n girls who translated it in german could should have thought about that *facepalm*... oh well... anyway I like your drawings ^-^

The worst translation in history is in ME3. The Hex-Shield of the Geth Commander in the Multiplayer is translated in "magischer Schild" which would be retranslated mean "magic shield". π΅
All because Hex can mean magic in German, but also hexagon.

I was noting this on Castle, too.Β They are engaged to be married and yet they always call each other by their last name!
At least I know why in the game, with free naming of the character there was no way to put it into the voice overs (although why they couldn't put it in text is beyond me).Β But in a TV show?

Karin (the doctor) also bumped the name thing. Shepard did ask her why she never calls thenm by their first name. She says that they are friends and she respects them too much. That's why she'll never call them by their first name.

They call Shepard by her/his last name. Not the first name, even though your companions are suppose to be your friend. Though, you choose you name so they couldn't say it.

This bothered me too but it helps so you don't have to record every line twice (for John and Jane) and it gives players the possibility to name their character, so I guess that's fine...
But it's weird when you're in love and all intimate and still on a last name basis.

If you by Doc a serice ice brandy in ME2 and agree to have one every year in mass effect 3 if you get chakwas back on the normandy you go up and talk to her a bit and she should mention the brandy if you agree the next time you talk to her you have a drink with her and if you ask her what her name is she tells you it and step should mention that she has near called Him/her by their first name and Doc replies "and I Never Will XD

I solved this problem by giving my femshep a girly name. She doesn't like people saying it and doesn't let most people know what her "real" name is.
