Description
Wanted to take a break from a few projects I have and do a speed paint. It was relaxing to do this and I'm proud to say it only took a little over an hour to do. Life has been a bit stressful so it's always nice to take a break and just paint. We have been currently gutting out my parent's townhome that we are going to move into in a few weeks. The previous renter totally destroyed the place; it baffles me how some people live. The carpet wasn't even a year old and it is destroyed. Someone also left an iron on while on the carpet. D: Fire hazard anyone? There's so much more but it's not worth explaining, it's all completely surprising to me. xD
Anyhoo, this is Ky from my current comic "Book of Tamiko" check it out! I'm trying to get his look down to where I'm really comfortable drawing him. I think I'm slowly getting there.
Enjoy!

I know you posted it a long time ago but I still want to comment! I so liked the color composition here and watching the process of it, weeks ago x'D You uploaded a step by step gif or something, right? Or am I just confused.. It was super cool anyway And I've never understood the US and its fascination for carpets, haha, here everyone absolutely hate carpets, even though its really cold!

I did post that! And thank you! I'm really happy with it myself.
Jared and I prefer wood floors, however, carpet is cheaper. I've noticed many cultures don't seem to have carpet in their homes. In the summer carpet makes our place really hot D: so wood floors are nice then.

Exactly! Also, they are a lot, A LOT easier to clean x'D And no stains! So I guess it'd be really impractical here, with the mud we drag in in winter and pets We call your carpets wall-to-wall carpets and people talk about them with disgust, its actually pretty funny because I've lived in North America several times and found that carpets were perfectly OK.. we use smaller ones though! I don't know what they are called.. Like this: scontent.cdninstagram.com/hpho…
Woah, I talk a lot! i got excited, haha

Oh yeah, Jared's mom has wood floors, it seems so much easier, especially with pets and such. Haha, wall-to-wall that's hilarious. Is there a reason people are so against carpet in Norway? Also, we call those rugs. People here put rugs on top of their carpet even xD and no! I love learning these kinds of things, it's interesting.

Rugs! I should have known that I think its because we associate it with this concept of... Trashy? We call it 'harry' (not from the name, haha, it means trashy or poor in taste), everything resembling the 80s', barbeques, jumpsuits and furniture that in general isnt white, black or something subtle x'''D Norwegians seem to be all about.. Styling up their houses and most people I know have an apartment that looks like it came from IKEA. Very good in taste of course, but not very accepting to outdated things and colors, and carpets are one of them I guess
That, and the weather, the hygiene, the dirt, I think. I have to take a pic from my living room to show you what I mean haha

"Book of Tamiko"! I'm enjoying the prologue and I need to learn how to use Tumblr! I'm wondering if I do follow you. I need a crash course on how to use this site.
Anyway, I love his black-blue hair, elf ears (reminds me of Vulcans from Star Trek) and his robe is cool. His complexion is great! The background stars are wonderful too. And you did this all a little over an hour...gee with all those star lights too! Kudos to you, my friend! I still have to practice to get my characters' looks down! Arghhh! God help me!
You've definitely got the young girl down pat. Keep up the fantastic work!

Awe yay! I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's fun planning it out. If you need any help with tumblr don't be afraid to note me, I'd be glad to help you with it! It's fun once you get the hang of it.
Why thank you! This is the first speedpaint I've done that I like and was actually..fast, so thank you so much! (:
Hey, we all struggle with getting our characters down, you're definitely not alone in that! But thank you again, it really means a lot to hear that!

Beautiful! Was using basically two colors intentional? His skin and clothes are nearly the same color, like his hair and the sky are nearly the same color. It has an interesting effect -- kind of reminds me of Eastern Orthodox art, somehow.
Don'tcha hate when you start a comic and you can't draw a character consistently? Seems the only way to do it is to DO IT, and by that time my characters end up looking different from the original concept pages.

Yes, in a way. I didn't want too much color going on in this piece but also, since it was a speedpaint I didn't want it to be too complex either. But thank you! It was fun to experiment a bit.
I really do xD That's why I'm trying to practice certain characters that aren't in the comic yet and get them down. I've noticed with many comic artists though it takes them awhile for a character to look more consistent. So it's comforting to know everyone seems to have that struggle!

I have to respond to your comment about character consistency...couldn't resist! I have the same problem...and my cover characters look soooo different than my current ones! And I practiced sooo hard! (My own guilty spam) I've been doing my manga "The Watchman"...you'll see! The Watchman Series
