This is very helpful. Good shading is something i've been trying to improve on, i'm always worried about doing anything that isn't cell shading as that seems to be th only type i am okay at XD
But i won't improve unless i practice right, so this will defiantly be something to try out

huh, this is actually something I should try on my shading! doing the whole fill with color and erase to do highlights instead of painting everything in the normal way (like me doing a negative painting method instead of a positive) would help me with lighting effects

Yeah there are lots of different ways to shade! Last time I tried to use greyscale (on the "running" image. But it sadly didn't turned out well.
I, for myself, noticed that I know where I want to put highlights, but not where to shade. So I just fill it in with a color that fits the scenery and take my "water" brush and gently stroke in where the light hits I even used the brush to do those shins inside the mane (like you see in anime or something xD)
