Hello, Sarah !

This work of yours caught my eyes as a thumb because of it's beautiful blue color and the name. When I came to your page and saw it only had 2 faves, I thought that was unfair.

So let me go step by step here.

I know nothing, absolutely nothing about this technique, but I have seen many works of great artists because I am a fan of Fantasy. In that genre, a lot of works belong to this category.
I give you three stars for technique, because I think that the rocks could be much, much better in detail, as well as the mountains far away.
Now, it is possible that you did it like that on purpose to emphasize the monkey. I give you that e.deviantart.com/emoticons/n/n… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="Nod" />. Nevertheless, you might want to check on a guy I watch a.deviantart.com/avatars/j/e/j… " alt=" " title="jerry8448"/>.
If you really like painting and airbrushing you might want to get in contact with him or watch him to see what I meant with detail !
Another great artist is a.deviantart.com/avatars/e/b/e… " alt=" " title="ebrulii"/>. She is very sweet and I think she would give you some feedback on this work if you ask her.

Now for vision, originality and impact I give you 5 stars.

I think you did fantastic when naming this work. Indeed, it seems to me that this monkey has something human in his behaviour.
His look is sad. I feel that he lost his family or female and isolated himself out of sadness.

The details of the face and hair are fantastic. The tail needs improvement, as if you had gotten tired of working on it, but the face is simply perfect. I guess you focused on it (on the face) and on the contemplation look of the eyes and it shows here. I get the impulse of helping him or consoling him. You were able to deliver that feeling very well.

I also like the overall blue. I get the idea that he is actually looking at the moon, and the moonlight is falling on him, thus providing this fantastic shine on him, making his hair sparkle.

I belive that you have a bright future in this kind of art if you work harder on finishing the details. (Even now, you are still in time to improve it if you want. And I would strongly encourage you to do so. This is too nice to leave it as it is).

Do you think you would like to try ?

Thank you for your critique! It was very thoughtful and honest. This piece was a real pain in the butt. I had just got my wacom tablet, and had no idea how I would be able to do textured rocks and sky. It was one of my first ten digital paintings, and it shows. After spending a day on it, I did get sick of it and just posted it as is.
It would look so much better if I redid the rocks and his afterthought tail. hehe. Now that I have a better grasp of how my tablet works, your encouragement has goaded me into a remake.

Well, if you do, I would be delighted. It means that my critique was worth writing and that honesty is a great tool when the receiver is open minded.

Actually, you just encouraged me on never giving up on extended comments.

I really, really like this work... and you have just been featured in my journal (minutes before I read or answered this. You must have the comment on your frontpage !)

Thanks for your nice answer and please, DO work on this beauty !!!
