Description
Update 2: Very big and exciting news soon to come...!Update: I know it's been two years now, but I am in fact still working on this and planning to update it. I didn't have much time to work for a while. Right now I'm in the middle of rewriting the code from as2 to as3. There'll be a lot of behind the scene changes that'll just make things run so much smoother. On top of that I've redone the layout, which looks much nicer now, it's easier to read and use, and makes it much easier to understand how things work. The last thing I have planned before I officially release the next version is a redo for the art on the markings. Lineart will stay the same, but things such as tabby markings, tortie patches, and white markings will be fixed up, and will hopefully look much better.
I'd like to get some opinions on whether I should upload the full version over this deviation, or whether I should upload a second one so this version can still be used. Thoughts? Feel free to still comment and give your opinion on this, but it's looking like I'll probably end up putting this version on sta.sh, and uploading the new version over this. That way all favorites and links for this will still be intact, and people will still have the choice over which version to use. If you have any other opinions though, I'd love to hear them!

You are not under any circumstances allowed to sell the cats you create in this program for any kind of currency, nor use these for any kind of adoptables, free or otherwise. You are however more than welcome to use the design you've made and use it with a premade lineart, or in a drawing of your own, and you may sell, give away, and use that design however you please.
Feel free to link any cats you upload from this, I'd love to see them.

The release date is for 2018, but that's all the info I can give at the moment. I'll be posting a full announcement about what's happening with the creator soon though!

I'd say we'd have to wait a few more years as game development, even like this, takes a long time.

Well it depends on the reason for not being able to screenshot. There are lots of programs, and I believe browser extensions, that you can use to screenshot if your computer's built in screenshotting doesn't work. Other than that, I'm afraid I don't know of any other way.

I might. It just depends on mow many references I can find for the color ranges of those cats. I'd really like to add it if I can find the references!

how cant i make a calico? and a calico is a cat breed
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ElpuntThing In reply to shadowfurrTY [2017-01-22 14:33:24 +0000 UTC]
To make a calico: 1) Turn black on. 2) Turn tortoiseshell on. 4) Turn white on and slide it to about 30-40%. Voilà! A calico! You may want to adjust the contrast in the tortoiseshell tab to make the red stripes less obvious, but it's not necessary.
A calico is not, in fact, a breed, but rather a term used to describe a particular combination of colours, namely a black tortoiseshell with white spotting. That's why they're also called "tortoiseshell-and-white"
Hope this helps!

Which eye colors are dominant and recessive? Thanks for any responses!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Paleclaw In reply to ArtsiKatsi [2016-10-23 01:53:22 +0000 UTC]
Eye colors in cats don't work in a standard dominant-recessive way. Not a lot is know about the genetics of them. With the exception of white-linked blue, colorpoint-linked blue, and mink-linked blue-green, the offspring of a pair could conceivably have any of the other possible eye colors. However there does seem to be a tendency for the offspring to have the same or similar eye colors to the parents (two amber eyed cats tend to have amber eyed children). The eye color of mixed breed cats also seems to tend towards hazel rather than the more "extreme" colors (the simplified range of eye colors is orange-yellow-hazel-green), though the exact reasoning for this isn't currently known.

Okay, thanks! This helps a lot! One more thing though XD
I read somewhere that you can guess a white cat's coloring based on how dark their eyes are or something. Is this true? I didn't think eye color was different for different base coats, except in dilutes and certain patterns, like point and all white coats touching the eyes. Am I wrong? Thanks again! ^^

Paleclaw In reply to ArtsiKatsi [2016-10-23 23:31:53 +0000 UTC]
Nah, you can't really tell for sure what's under white based on eye color alone (though I'm not entirely certain whether the blue-green eyes show in white cats masking mink... I assume so, but the patterns don't really mingle in normal situations, so I can't say for sure. But even then, that would only tell the pattern underneath the white, not the color). Certain colors like chocolate and cinnamon tend to have paler eye colors, but not exclusively, and any other colors/patterns could have pale eyes as well. There's no surefire way to tell what's under the white other than looking at their relative's colors.
But yeah, you're absolutely right, eye color isn't really really different (at least not exclusively) based on the coat color, aside from point, mink, white, and possibly chinchilla/shaded (which supposedly can have blue-green eyes, but I don't have a 100% reliable source on that). Dilute doesn't actually effect eye color at all though. They have the same range of eye colors that non-dilutes have, and from what I've seen, there doesn't seem to be a tendency towards paler colors or any specific hue.

Thanks, this helped a lot! So cats with patterns (Like a tabby) are more likely to have lighter eyes, right? Also, one more thing (Very sorry but I just thought of this) I have a russian blue who is about 1 1/4 years old. However, she has golden eyes, and not the green eyes that purebred russian blues have. The breeder said she is purebred, but I'm not sure now. Her tail also has very bold stripes for a russian blue. (They have tail stripes as kittens but as they get older they fade away or become much lighter. Hers have't faded at all) My question is basically just whether you know anything about this breed of cat and if there would be any giveaways to if she actually is purebred, or if these are just mutations. Thanks again for all your help, sorry if this is getting annoying!

Paleclaw In reply to ArtsiKatsi [2016-10-26 00:46:37 +0000 UTC]
No, as far as I'm aware patterned/tabby cats aren't more likely to have lighter eyes. Mixed breed cats are more likely to have duller (though not necessarily lighter) eyes, so that probably applies to a lot of tabbies, but it's not linked to their pattern.
How old is your cat? I've read that russian blue cats often (or always?) have yellow eyes initially, and then they develop into green after around 4-6 months (I've heard some cases of russian blue cats not getting their final eye color until 10 months, but that's rarer). I can't say I know much about russian blue breed standards, but it does seem strange for and adult cat to have golden eyes if she's a purebred of a breed that seems to have exclusively green eyes. There's plenty of instances where purebred cats don't meet their breed standard, but I would assume the golden eyes would have to come from somewhere, and I wouldn't think anything other than green would even be in the gene pool of a breed so specific about eye color. That being said, most of my knowledge is with theoretical genetics, not really with specific breeds and breed standards, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
The tail stripes on the other hand don't seem that odd. I'm sure there's plenty of variation on that within the breed, and they wouldn't really make me doubt whether she's purebred or not.

This is just so great! I use this for creating characters for a roleplay I do with my friends, just to make sure everything is accurate and because I love the lineart and all the settings too! I can't wait for the undercoat and point options, as those are the genetics I have the most trouble with. Nice work! I can't wait for the full version!
