Description
Colored pencil/oil pastelsBlack matboard
In drow society, making a mistake can be fatal. Miscalculating any move can lead to doom. Faults are exploited and weakness is seen only as an invitation for an enemy to make a move.
Here we see the results of one of those miscalculations in judgment. This drowess had the audacity of plotting to kill the matron of her house, her own mother. This is not shocking, of course, being a drow society the expected and most expedient way to advance is by murder.
But in drow society the only true crime is getting caught. This budding priestess Made the mistake of babbling a little too much information about her plans after an evening of drinking a very fine wine. She was arrested post haste by her mother.
Now, her punishment is exacted. To be thrown into the rift below the city where the driders lurk is truly merciful as they will kill her quickly.
A drider is the unholy joining of a drow and a massive spider. A curse put upon a drow for some horrible high crime, driders are doomed to live as these spider to testify for eons of their own miscalculations in judgment.
For Miscalculations.

I think the absolute grossness of the drider makes the figure of the priestess stick out more. Especially with the total air of calm she seems to be in.
And if I remember correctly from my first reading of a drider they were described as difigured, bloated and barely recongizable as ever being elfish. I think you did a great job in portraying that.

This looks like an illustration you would see on an old book cover or in one of the AD&D core books. This is very impressive, has that old-school high fantasy quality. I love the sadistically triumphant look on the drider's face, while the priestess looks resigned, yet proud to the end.

Thanks Yah I wanted her to look like she was going to die without showing fear. More resigned.

This is incredible plain and simple. I mean the Drider looks so real I almost just want to reach out and punch him the face and save the priestess. But on second thought she'd probably be more likely to cut my throat than what I'm thinking of.
Yeah...awkward...but this is a great piece period defiantly adding it to my favs.

Thanks
Yes, when I was done with this one I looked at the drider and grimaced myself. He sort of invites that feeling of disgust that makes you want to kill it so you don't have to look at it.

This is both beautiful and grotesque, though I assure you the latter is in a good way. The drowess looks ... ok I'll just say nice to behave. No no no, she really does look beautifully done and by far, way in over her head. The driders just look so disgusting that its GREAT!! Now thats the reason to fear them! It makes me shudder just the thought.
Dude best of luck in the contest!!! A fantastic entry if there was one!

Thanks,
I was always bothered by all the drider pics I have seen because they are always sleek and beautifull and well proportioned and from all the literature I have read on them they are supposed to be bloated and grotesque in the upper body. In fact, I have never seen one drawn with pincers in its cheeks as its supposed to.
So, being the stickler I am, I tried to be accurate even though after it was done it was rather disgusting to look at , haha.

Disgusting is good and yes, everything I have read suggested the same thing. But everywhere you look its like a drow hotty (male or female, take your pic) with the lower spider half. Thats why I really loved this piece ... hot naked drowess aside

hehe,
After I finished this pic my heart kinda sank because I realized how much the grossness would take away from the priestess. I was like "damn why did I bother?" lol >_>
