Name: Listens - Well
Species: River Troll
Gender: They / Them
Description: A gentle giant, Listens is meek and unobtrusive. Camouflaged to the rock and silt buildup in a shallow creek, they've learned to mostly watch and wait- their name, however, does not come from being some sort of attentive ambush hunter. Listens - Well is a tender and patient friend and a skilled storyteller, who has time for anyone who needs an ear lent. Tragically, their family couldn't see this about them, and at a young age, their father yanked one of their ears off in frustration when Listens "wasn't paying attention" - in reality, Listens - Well was (and is) hearing impaired and tried their best. Now, Listens turns and fixes conversational partners with their good side when talking, and tries to stay positive about the injury, insisting it helps let people know where they aren't focused.
Listens - Well is shy with other humanoids, to sometimes comical effect considering their strong stature and general competence, but very social and doting on the wild animals in their territory, especially rukaan. They have a troublesome habit of rescuing every calf they encounter only to become jittery when it comes to rehoming them or bringing them to a nice ranch, often silently depositing them on Hvede's doorstep before scurrying off into the woods. Both Hvede and the Hermit share trusting relationships with Listens - Well, but Listens remains eternally just a little coy and paranoid about the whole affair.
rukaan raised by the group often end up with several names, as each member gives them a different convention. Listens - Well gives descriptive names to their rescues, not unlike their own:
