Indeed this is great!

I love the crazy "fossils are made by the devil to test our faith" idea.
Lie to me, but don't lie to yourself XD

What.
fossils are real ...
any one can see that.
who on earth would say something like that and stillΒ  be considered to have human level intelligences.

If they're not real, what are they?

It's funny though; many of the Christians I know (Southern Baptists by the way-- unlike other Baptists, they're not liberal), just think think that the fossils are not as old as scientists say they are. Go figure.

Ah, the old creationist bs then? It's easy to disprove the 6,000 year old earth thing, but they really have to be willing to listen, otherwise you are wasting text or worse your voice.

I guess so. Frankly I don't see much conflict between science and religion anyways. Evolution just explains HOW God created things. But whatever.

Of course, you can remove God completely if you want to. I don't care if people are atheist or agnostic. The Bible says not to judge, so I try to live by that. It's not my business what others believe so long as those beliefs are not harmful. (And I only consider beliefs harmful if they tell you to hurt yourself or others. )

While Southern Baptists can be a hard lot to talk to, some of them are not too bad. Some seem to believe the way I do: that science explains the how of things and religion explains the why.... or something along those lines.

The problem is when you talk to staunch creationists. They often don't understand the science behind things. How can you possibly expect them to believe that a certain fossil is thousands of years old when the only way to prove that is by carbon-dating, a procedure they may know nothing about? :/

Like the Islam teachings. I dont buy that crap about Islam being a religion of peace for one moment; not after I read the quarn for myself.

I was taught when I was little science and religion can coexist, but as I have become more educated in geology, genetics, and other areas of science I (personally, as well as others) see no point in having a god.

Actually, carbon-dating is not the only way to figure out how old something is. In fact it is only reliable to a certain age. [link]

"Like the Islam teachings. I dont buy that crap about Islam being a religion of peace for one moment; not after I read the quarn for myself."
I was born in the Middle East (Bahrain-- I'm a navy brat), so I don't have a problem with Islam. It can be a peaceful religion; I know too many moderate Muslims to think otherwise. But as in Christianity the fringe element takes some of the teachings way too far and interprets them in awful ways.

If you get right down to it, the Old Testament (and the New Testament too) can be just as bad. In fact I remember a few years ago the King James version of the bible didn't make it past the censors in some Asian countries! Too much violence, incest, etc.

"I was taught when I was little science and religion can coexist, but as I have become more educated in geology, genetics, and other areas of science I (personally, as well as others) see no point in having a god."
Fair enough. Sometimes with genetics, it certainly doesn't feel like there's a God. How could a loving God allow someone to have such a horrible disease like Tay-Sachs or one of the many other genetic conditions? I don't know what to say there. :/

Personally after dealing with depression, I have to think that something did keep me going during those hard times. It wasn't my family, who were mostly in denial. It wasn't my friends; being teens, they didn't even notice my problem. Whatever it was, I had a lot hope for someone who was so depressed. Maybe it was God. Or maybe it was just me being too scared to actually kill myself. I don't know.

"Actually, carbon-dating is not the only way to figure out how old something is. In fact it is only reliable to a certain age. [link]"
I know. I was just using it as an example. Plus it was the only one I could remember off the top of my head.

I think any religion can be peaceful, but the core teachings of Islam are not peaceful. "kill those who don't convert" ect....

Ooooo, the bible has to be the most violent book ever compiled if you ask me.

See, I can see reasons for someone to want to have something higher to grab onto. But for me at least I see so much wonder and, to borrow a word, miracles of nature that I see no need for a god.
I keep going so I can learn more.

None of the Muslims I knew saw it that way. They interpreted it as remaining strong and loyal to to their faith (and God) despite outside pressures.

Plus there's the whole 5 pillar concept to the faith too. ^^ Which includes being kind to others.

The 5 pillars are considered the foundation of Muslim life, in case you are not familiar with them. They include: 1. faith and Oneness of God and of Muhammad as the final prophet; 2. establishment of daily prayer; 3. concern for others; 4. self-purification; and 5. at least one pilgrimage to Mecca. Some are done daily, monthly, or annually, while one is only required once in a lifetime. Holy war has nothing to do with it.

I guess it all depends on how you use it. :/ Religion only becomes a problem when people make it that way.

"Ooooo, the bible has to be the most violent book ever compiled if you ask me."
I know. Stewie from "Family Guy" has a point when he says he loves God because He is so deliciously evil after he read the "good book!"

You have to look beyond the written words to understand some of those things. But that's besides the point.

"But for me at least I see so much wonder and, to borrow a word, miracles of nature that I see no need for a god.
I keep going so I can learn more."

I feel the same way, to be honest. Except that I think it's evidence of God. God in nature. Either way, I can still appericate those wonders and miracles of nature.

Same difference, I guess.

Haven't heard of the 5 pillar thing.

See, thats the thing. Every person feels differently about how the bible, or any holy book, should be read. Some say literally, some say to look past the words....others say only parts should be literal. But, how do you decide what is literal and what isn’t? With so many people who have a different view than you. For those reasons enough I don’t think any book should be considered holy.

Now, if there is any god I would call it nature and the laws of physics and nature. But as for an omnipresent god...no.

I'm really not sure if you are joking or not. I have gotten comments like this from others who really are religious.

However, seeing your other comments I'm inclined to believe this is sarcasm.

Something about devine numbers and stuff. While I like the idea of numerology, the crap he was saying was just plain wrong! ex- The distance from the front of the forhead is 15,000 square miles to the back of the head. The Bible is a Mirror at night. Take it outside and open it to (some book that starts with M) and look up. It's a perfect map of the sky!

WTF!?
