photo of a large scale collaborative work that i created with 6 other people out of over 500 loaves of white bread. the viewer is supposed to create their own meaning for the work. done 2nd half of 2nd semester. 2005.the 500 loaves of bread were obtained by this means....
professors gave us a budget of $140 for materials
we petitioned our dean of the art school at alfred university for an extra $200. we got it.
one of the dining halls donated us an extra 150 loaves.
it was an incredible experience creating this piece.

hahah. no i wouldnt eat that shit. it was all over the floor and dirty and stale. we took it down right after our crit was over...the spot we built it in was reserved for a TA's show the next day.

no we didnt preserve the bread or anything..and we had to build it three diff times...all on diff nights because it kept on collapsing on its own weight so each time we modified the design a bit.....this particular one we constructed in one night because we were afraid it was going to fall down over night ...and our critique on it was the next morning....surprisingly nothing reallly collapsed over night.
it only took us about 5-6 hours to do this all. about 4 people out of seven worked on it at a time.
it went pretty fast.

I'm not sure that I would qualify white bread as "food." As an artistic medium it has largely been unexplored. Clearly this is a pioneering work.

haha. u should have smelled it as we were constructing it...the smell of processed white bread was quite overwhelming and could be smelled from great distances.

we got that same reaction from a lot of people. this piece is supposed to rouse some sort of reaction from the view. im excited at some of the different ones i am getting from this piece.
