Description
Minor price adjustment! I can't knock them down any lower, sorry!Batch one of the Aequis are up! Each of them has a full ref sheet that will be sent to the buyer. This round is a test, so the prices are a little bit lower for the time being so I can gauge demand. All of them are unique in shape, size, and color, and drawn in colored pencil, gouache, and watercolor. (Lots of time was spent on their sheets!)
Owners get to decide personality, sex, etc. of the character. Designs can only be re-sold for the price paid for them. If interested, the ref sheets can be shipped domestic free of charge (+$5 USD for shipping anywhere outside the US). For the time being, Aequis can only be bought from me.
For more information on the Aequis, you can either ask me or visit my tumblr pallanophblargh.tumblr.com/ and browse the "aequis" tag.
#1: A grassland type, fast moving and brightly colored. This type tends to be a bit smaller than some other types, but not at the expense of their attitude and personality. This one has a double crest at the top of their head and a bristly beard under the chin.
Owned by BlackChaos666 !
#2: A large Aequis of the arctic variety, this individual is coated in a thick layer of insulating feathers, right down to their toes. These are some of the largest known Aequis.
Owned by sarahmarlen !
#3: An islander, this sleek individual is good example of the seafaring type with long pointed wings and tail streamers.
Owned by elektroyu !
Again, any questions or suggestions, feel free to throw them at me. I don't bite!

Dang, I missed this completely! They look fantastic!
Especially enjoying the hoof-talon combination.

There will be more! I just need to get my butt in gear when I'm not at work. We need 48 hour days, but I want that extra 24 to go to art/yardwork/fish/plant maintenance. And then I can sleep!
I do love their toes, but I need to figure out how I want to draw the scaling. I can't seem to decide.
(I want to finish another group of three in the next two weeks before doing a couple of "simpler" designs using bases. We'll see how that goes!)

Tell me about it! I want to switch my schedule to 4 10-hour days and 3 days off.
Then I can have a day to 'recharge' and two more to project.
Looking forward to more!

That's about how I work! (I mean, ideally, but real life doesn't allow for that.) Also, if I could shave an hour off my commute both ways, that'd be even better!
I really want the next round done before June. Aaaaah if only I had more time/functioning elbows! Gotta take it easy, boo.

Sorrow!
Curious - do you drive, or take public transportation?
If the latter, any way you can art as you ride?
This is NOT conducive to neat work. But, it might be good for capturing concepts to expand on later.

I do get to doodle while taking public transportation! But usually only when I'm taking the light rail, since it's less jarring than erratic bus driving. I try putting either escapist doodles into my travel sketchbook, character concepts, or thumbs for things I want to do. It's always a good way to unwind from a work day!

Agreed! I wish I could draw while I drive. I get ideas on the drive that I forget when I get home. ;/

I think in terms of just pure fun during creation, that one was the best! Though I had to get creative with the problem-solving for those shoulder feathers!

Well, I tend to like dark coloring and the gold tint to that one makes me doubly happy, since gold is one of my favorite colors.

These are gorgeous. I'd love to get art from you one day. I'd get these just to have the painting shipped over, nevermind using them as a character

Awww, thanks! I'll be sure to keep a wide variety of designs coming. And to think I was worried that the traditional media/originals would keep people from being interested in them!

Thank you! That one seems to be everyone's favorite. Now I know that light colored designs are well received! (Which is odd, since I'm a huge fan of melanistic traits! Pretty pretty melanin.

You're both a spectacular artist AND an amazing xenocreator! (Creatrix? What-evah!)
Are these carnivorous or omnivorous? (Not entirely herbivorous, obviously; that many environmental variants preclude a year-round supply of high-calorie, easily digested food like fruit, nuts, or other large seeds, while low-calorie/high-fiber foods like grass and leaves take a slow and thorough digestive system to maintain something that size.)
Most of all, I LOVE the complexity of those feet. The thumb with its hooked claw is pretty clearly the main fighting/hunting/manipulating digit; is it also still opposable with/to the other claws?
The two middle claws are becoming weight-bearing hooves; are they still capable of moving independently from each other, or do they mostly act as one unit with just a little rebalancing capacity? And can they still curve back far enough to grasp something against the other claws and/or main palm/heel?
Is the little toe becoming vestigial, or still part of a clenchable grip with the thumb and maybe the other digits?
Dangit, you draw these so well I want to see them MOVE! I'm not even a birder or other naturalist, but I want to traipse around your world with an Aequis-sighting Life List.
Your fan, and now even more so,
--Nonie

They're full fledged carnivores, yep! (I've got drawings of their teeth and such on my tumblr, but no full skeletals yet!) That was probably the first thing I changed about their original concept. Less gut means less weight!
You're right about their feet! The main hunting claw is dextrous and can rotate forward and back, the outer toe is dextrous as well, despite being shorter. The middle toes are weight bearing so that the Aequis can move comfortably on foot if they are grounded for any reason. The two middle toes don't move that much independently of each other, though they can splay and flex. The outer claws can be pressed against the back of the central digits, but not to the extent that a bird's foot can grasp. I might model the feet of island and seafaring types to have more dextrous toes for the sake of handling aquatic prey. We'll see how that one pans out, I won't know until I sketch it!
These are great questions! Thanks so much for helping me to keep my mind exercised!

(Oops--I seem to have left out the bit about such a digestive system being large & heavy and therefore not suitable for a large flier.)

We germans seem to need some birb faces!

(Short english version for April, in case you read this: You are awesome! )

I saw the design process of the Aequis on tumblr, I have to say I really really love what you came up with! They are unique (as are the nophs) and powerful!
And my fav is definitely nr.1 for both the bird reference and beard! <3
So, can you send to germany then? (I'll happily pay the shipping cost, whatever that might be!)
Because I'd really love to get Nr.1! (ORIGINAL ART from YOU + A FANTASTIC CHARACTER at the same time??? I'd be DAMNED if I missed that opportunity!)

(Also, if tumblr doesn't let me respond to your question, they can be taught to learn a human language, they just won't be the best of linguists.)
