Description
Large piece (22x30) executed in mixed media (acrylic, watercolor, india ink, gouache, charcoal) on 140lb hot press Fabriano Artistico. Roughly based on the concept of Odin's ravens, there is some vine like figures on the branches reminiscent of Nordic decorations.I sold the original: a bargain at $375... and have to admit that I miss it.

Beautiful. Reminds me about the two ravens from Sandman and Dreaming comics. The black one was called Matthew and the white one was Tethys, i think.

Really? Now listen, if you're into myths and some amazing stories (and something tells me you are) you should read Neil Gaiman's comic "The Sandman". One of the best series ever written. And Caitlin Kiernan's "The Dreaming" is one of the best spin-off's or sequels there is. Go check them out, OK?
I'd love to see your take on some of the Sandman characters for sure.

While I was painting this, I decided that the black one was Huginn, and the white Munnin. Perhaps because the white's vaporous quality made him seem more like a memory. At least, I think that's what I was going for...

Thanks very much! Yes, it's still an experimental sort of process with me, which I suppose is a good thing. Nice to react to what the medias do with each other for once.

fantastic use of color in this piece! The intensity of the leaves, contrasted with the subdued blues and greens, is really beautiful. You've got so many interesting negative shapes that are activated by the way you closed off and compartmentalized the spaces with the twisting tree branches. That includes the way you positioned and posed the birds, too. I can't get over the textures in the ravens' feathers, laid right next to the whorled bark pattern! They assimilate very well. The entire composition is so active.

I think my logic behind this was since he was going to be the focal point anyways (due to his heavy saturation), I should put him in the front.
