Head filled with thoughts of places far away and not of age to go off on their own, they spent an abundant amount of time looking at old pictures their parents had, asking for stories they hadn’t yet told them, and trying to find something to occupy their ample free time. During a city trip for some supplies, Okonia found what would fill that gap of time. They were captivated by a pair of street performers that were working with fire. The movements and the flames seemed to harmonize in a way that they had never seen before. What they did looked amazing and dangerous and interesting and exciting and... dangerous. When they approached the performers, their only question was if they had traveled and from that question sprung a long string of stories of places their parents had probably never even heard of. The child was terribly interested in every word that came from their mouths. Luckily for Koni, both their species and natural ability made playing with fire essentially harmless. After a long time of practice and slip ups (and almost burning down the house on more than one occasion), Okonia actually became fairly skilled at the art. And this skill was their ticket out. Unbeknownst to them, it was what would allow them back on the path their parents abandoned at their birth– that they dreamed of.
After performing in the city as a street performer for some time (with the approval and occasional chaperoning of their parents) and receiving numerous complements and invitations to perform, they finally turned eighteen. They were finally free to pursue the road that they had dreamed of and they were ecstatic about it. Their parents did not bother to hold their child back, considering they had been about the same apart and together. If anything they wholeheartedly supported what Koni wanted to do. After a phone call, some waiting, and well wishes, Okonia took a job with a traveling cirque that they had received an offer from a few weeks prior. It was everything they dreamed it would be. So many people and places that had been at the edge of their fingertips were finally in reach– though that freedom would not last long. After a few years (too few, in their opinion), the cirque disbanded for personal reasons amongst the troupe and Okonia found themself with no place else to go but home. They hadn't saved up much money nor found some land to call their own... But that was when it darned on them. Instead of going home they could just do what they had been doing: go somewhere new! Home was lovely and all, but, well... it was home– Their parent's home, to be more specific. Not the home that they thought of as such. Too old and completely lacking the potential to be new.
With the possessions they had in tow, the Vulpix set out to find something new yet again. And boy did they find... something. Upon seeing the town, their first thought was that it was quite a "piece of work." And all pieces do, of course, require some work to be presentable.
