Self-preservation is the name of the game. For the most part, Shang has no interest in the concept of team-work or cooperation, or any of the other considerations that generally come with cohabitation. He will likely ignore you, unless you hold something of value to him, or might aid in whatever his mission happens to be. Nevertheless, he isn't socially inept. He's able to get by with a casual self-assurance that makes him easy to banter with, and some might even find him charming. He's frequently insensitive with his tongue, though his glib attitude can make it hard to know whether or not he says certain things because he is teasing you or because he genuinely thinks you're stupid. (Probably the latter.) There is a degree of arrogance and condescension that accompanies his elusiveness -- any respect or consideration given by him is very, very hard-earned.

Additionally, as someone who values efficiency, he hates having to exert more effort than necessary. Because of this, he is quite innovative in the methods that he chooses to go about things...often bypassing [inconvenient] rules to reach his goals. [The right way is the easiest way.]

A product of the streets, Shang was born with little more than the instinct to survive. In a country ravaged by the V370 pandemic, Shang was just another orphan among many lost in a landscape of disease and tumult. Few paid attention to such an existence, and early on, Shang scraped by on his own, sharpening his wits and savvy in order to survive -- until he stumbled upon a group of similar souls dwelling in the inner city. Orphans, outcasts, and fugitives - the ragtag collective rallied around a common goal: to make curative biotechnology accessible to the masses. Health was a universal right, after all.

With time, the group gained momentum, finding growing success in its raids against the greedy biotechnology companies that branded longevity as a dream that only the wealthy could attain. However, as with many of the well-intentioned riots of history, this one, too, soon met its end. Shang and his compatriots were scattered in a particularly gruesome confrontation with one of the more prominent cyborg technology companies. Wealth proved the victor, and Shang escaped the scene with a damaged body and a vengeful heart.

Taking it upon himself to carry on the ambitions of his predecessors, Shang soldiered on by doing what he knew best: stealing. Among countless other pilfered items, a particular invitation finds its way into his hands - and Shang discovers the ticket to a convenient new identity. He would become an outstanding student, adopting the noble mission of Lane Nielsen's academy... : )
