Description The rain had began to fall at the least convenient of times, while you and Jacob ran to take refuge, laughing together as the stinging flecks found their way past the leather of your coats and onto your skin, the rain ran down the creases of your smile into your gleeful grins. “No stop, here.” Jacob grabbed your hand, his fingers feeling warm as they curled around yours, tugging you towards an old storage warehouse.

“This place is always empty.” He announced, voice echoing slightly in the wide building.

“Nice work.” You grinned, following him up a set of groaning, dust littered stairs. “Is it always so filthy too?” You mocked.

“Hey now, this is a quality establishment!” He defended, as you poked your tongue out at him.

You snorted. “Nothing quality about it.”

“It's keeping us dry.” He wondered amidst the barrels and well weathered crated until seemingly finding what he was looking for. “Give us a hand, love.”

“Alright, loove.” You smirked, putting all the emphasis into your o. Helping him crack open a barrel, the scent of freshly picked apples met you, and they're shinning red and yellow skins were a summery sight amidst this colourless place. “Ooh, maybe it isn't so bad here after all.” You grinned, carefully plucking one dominated by gleaming red. Finding your seat on the barrel opposite his, you too a bite, crunching through the thin skin into the juice of the fruit. “So,” you began, mouth still full, “now what?”

“We can raid more barrel if you fancy, my little thief,” He tossed his head back and grinned, taking a loud bite into his fruit. “Or we just wait, for the rain to stop.”

You rose. Tossing the core to the floor, and the probable rats that made their home in this tumbling old place. Eyes turning towards the window across the beams behind you. “Might be a while then...”

“Get comfy then.” He threw back.

“Get used to my company then.” You retorted.

“Get...give us a minute I can't think of a good remark.”

“Jacob Frye knocked of his pillar of sarcasm, why I never!” You took another bite.

He burst into a small laugh. “Is sarcasm all Jacob Frye will be known for?” His tone was a little more sincere now, and made you turn to face him directly.

“No.” You smiled, carefully choosing another apple. “Your brash, loyal, heroic-”

“Shut up!” He frowned. “I'm not really, Evie is the one with the brains, not me.”

“I think you have the same mind for this as Evie, but of a different kind.” You smiled lightly, Jacob was never the type to show or voice his insecurities, but you'd always known they were there. “You are different, not your father, not Evie, but just as valuable, regardless of what you may think, Mr Frye.” You took a step towards him, dropping the half finished apple to the wooden floor, it creaked under your steps before you took Jacob's hand in yours. “I think you're brilliant, Jacob.” You almost whispered, realising how close you two were now. Jacob was like a brother to you, but here with the patter of rain on the roof and the warmth of his body so close to yours, you couldn't help but want a little more than that, maybe, just maybe...

His lips were against yours, emotions running through in your head like the raindrops zigzagging down the thin glass pane of the window. His lips were warm, soft, his hands running up your back to tangle with your hair, before he pulled you onto his lap, and you broke the kiss with a giggle. “I hope it keeps raining.” Jacob grinned, snatching another kiss from you.

Jacob has never been one for barriers, especially friend zone barriers.
