Growing up, Sam lived in the outskirts of Castelia City, in a more dangerous part of town. They were an only child, but had one close friend that they met at school named Parker. The two of them had gotten along swimmingly, and Sam would frequently spend nights over at Parker's crowded house thanks to the long hours his parents would work.
Unfortunately for Sam, Parker would end up moving away, and he would quickly lose contact with his only friend. This lead to many nights staying in an empty apartment in an unsafe neighborhood, and eventually as Sam got older he would get mixed in with the wrong crowd. He would slowly stop going to classes, stopping with school altogether after a while, and would stay out of his house for nights on end. His parents, as distant as they were, didn't notice the changes in their son, until it was too late.
Quite a few of Sam's new friends would wind up dragging them along to something that would get the lot of them arrested for the night, and Sam got quite the earful from his parents who had to leave work to bail him out. A few nights after this happened, Sam would quietly pack up their things in the night and leave to get the first ferry out of the city. In his honest opinion, the farther he could get from his family and his past, the better. Stepping off the boat and into the Issho region, a new chapter would start in Sam's life, though he'd quickly find out it'd be oddly similar to the last one.
