Description We stopped at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park and I started to get hungry. Boiling hot water and calcium carbonate produced a smell like hard boiled eggs. Travertine [the white material in this view] is a type of limestone and is formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate, often at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave. In the latter, it can form stalactites and stalagmites. It is frequently used in Italy and elsewhere as a building material.

Very nice image! I believe the eggs smell is from sulfur.

For trees it certainly is... for photographers it seems quite "user friendly"!!!

Great Shot! I spent a day there in July for the first time. Not many pics turned out liked i had hoped but this one is rally beautiful! the detail is perfect and the touch of color in the sky makes the shot! Great Work!

Thank you very much... we got lucky throughout our entire trip... but this was the best of the best!!! There were a few other photographers around and when the sunset finished we "high-fived" each other and one stated that this sunset was a "once every five year event" and that our timing was very fortunate! I'm still overwhelmed as I run through that night's shots!!!

Beautiful photo! We had the privilege of going out there one year. Sooo pretty, though that smell is not something one soon forgets

While this one made me hungry... some of the others were not quite so pleasant! Thank you!!!
