Some ponies who have had bad experiences with changelings don't trust Emric at all, even though he's just a wee one. Cobalt, a (former) associate of Cinnabar Jack's, planned to 'get rid of' the changeling before he grows up and becomes a threat.
Luckily for Emric (and not so lucky for Cobalt) Cinnabar Jack was nearby.
