Even when she was very young, Runa couldn’t help but feel as if the other wolves around her were crafting an identity for her, instead of her discovering it herself. She was happy as a young pup when her family was all together, but then Uma died and the truth of the rumours surrounding the owl-like family were revealed to her.

Runa felt angry and sad that complete strangers were creating stories about her and her family that were cruel and not true in the slightest. She felt out of control. Sometimes even wishing that her family looked normal so that they could be happy and accepted.

But as she’s growing older, Runa is caring less and less what others think of her. She’s connecting further to her owl-like features and she likes them... She has her family and she doesn’t need the validation of strangers to be happy with that. At long last, Runa is learning how to make an identity that is wholeheartedly her’s.
