She swallowed again, stilling under Runa’s last muttered phrase. There was a stutter, whatever coming after the I, left unsaid. Retracted like her own words had been. But hers were done in a panic, fraying mind, unwilling to say something she regretted. That she didn’t even know the answer to.

She couldn’t tell the reason Runa had stopped. But her panic had stopped her, and she understood now.

She let out a hiss of a breath against Runa, very slowly tearing herself away from their side. They looked at their face - even if they couldn’t see anything. Their messy heart beating in their chest, moving their whole body like a drum. It beat so loudly in their ears, they were left deaf too, to their own words as they softly muttered.

“I love you.”

“I feel like I’m made of star stuff,” was the first thing they managed to huff out. A breathless admission; words filled to the brim with relief, shock and - mostly - love. That much was undeniable. Now that the waters had been released, Runa wasn’t sure how they’d been blind to it for this long, “I love–” no, that was what they murmured to their family on quiet nights, “I’m in love with you, Ques. Quesnel,” they could say her name over and over again, almost surprised as they were able to connect the feeling to the wolf, “I love you.”

Leaning forward Runa pressed their forehead against Ques’. Their nose bumped her’s and they exhaled an airy laugh - light and carefree - not aware of the tears in the corner of their eyes until they inhaled, having to sniffle with it.

  

SCREECHING!! CRYING!! HOLDING THEM SO CLOSE!! we love a surprise confession, don't we? ;w;
anyways this was a wonderful collab with foalish who did the lines, colours and that beautiful bg while I did the sketch and shading!!! thank you so much for collabing with me.. I love 'em <33
