Description FULLVIEW PLEASE (sorry, otherwise it's a bit blurry ._.")

MY FIRST ENTRY FOR

It's a global fighting competition between countries, who are anthropomorphically represented by people, from a series "Axis Powers Hetalia", created by Hidekaz Himaruya.

I am Denmark, and for the first battle (theme: "cuisine, cooking and national foods") I am fighting the Turkish Northern Republic of Cyprus.

Uuuummmmmm... yes, Denmark is attacking TNRC as.. a... danish.... wait, WAIT, hold on, I got it covered! *shoots self*

But seriously, I will try not to make puns my regular weapon of choice in these battles. <.<" I just figured that for this first round I should draw something that people will get a good laugh out of [hopefully]... this was also inspired by 's question as to whether danishes (as in the pastry) actually came from Denmark. ... I will confess that I have not inquired into this question. However, it did inspire this short little crack comic to come into existence.

In my defense, I DID read up on actual Danish foods - and I must say that even though I was somewhat petrified by Danish cuisine choices, I am also thoroughly excited to try some in the near future. 8O (The "Sol over Gudhjem" actually looks very pretty ^^) And I totally get the whole thing about the rye bread, the "rugbrΓΈd", and how Danish people in countries all over the world are sad that they can't find it anywhere outside of Denmark - as a Russian, I am used to a specific type of bread, and unfortunately, I have been very disappointed to not find anything similar to it in the United States. D:

I am also excited that we have very similar words for "meatball" in Danish and in Russian. : D

But, cultural lessons aside for a moment, I must say that after, what, two-three days of slaving over this, I am so happy with how this came out. D8 I don't think I ever put this much effort into both the characters and the backgrounds (HOORAY FOR CRAYOLA PENCIL BACKGROUNDS! : D). So, um... I usually have comments on it, but I think I am so DONE working on this piece that I can't possibly come up with anything to say. |D

FEEDBACK AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM ARE WELCOME THOUGH (and much appreciated, actually). I wasn't sure how to illustrate the surprise and impact in panel two, so I just kind of settled on the red lines going whichever way. <.<" I'm not sure how it worked out, but I don't think it looks too terrible, so I'll leave it at that (not that I'd be able to fix it anyways X'D).

*nods head* I think Scandinavia in general is known for their strange innovative ways to prepare food (while not reaching the disastrous need for censoring like English food <.<.

And thank you for your support! : D

This is awesome...I'm also so stuned by the awesome coloring. Seriously it's something of the best I've ever seen. It's really nice with the shadows and such!

So as Dane I approve!
hahah RugbrΓΈd and danisg (the food) rocks by the way..Though BEER is the number one thing for Danes (Hetealia seems to make people believe that Germans are the great beer-lovers...we'll I clearly believe Denmark would beat anyone in drinking)XD

OH MY GAWD THANK YOU FOR YOUR SWEET COMMENT. ; ; Thank you for the fave too!

AND YAY I AM APPROVED BY AN ACTUAL DANE! *happy dance* And I'll be sure to keep the beer thing in mind when I go visit Denmark (I am really hoping to go there in the near future :3). Haha, I just had the best image of a drinking contest between Germany, Denmark and Russia. X'D Gawd, I honestly can't even say who would win that! (Russians DO love their vodka...)

You're going to Denmark? Wauw I've never really thought of Denmark as a holiday place...But beer is definitely the number one favourite drink in Denmark. (And we've got lots of it too.)
Hahah ok maybe Russia would the ultimate winer when it comes to drinking (At least when it's vodkaXD)

Well, I am really hoping that I can travel to Denmark, but no plans are final yet. What is the drinking age in Denmark, by the way?

And haha, let's not get Russia started on drinking vodka, he'll never stop. XD

When you're 16 (Like me) you can buy it in supermarkets and such places. I think you have to 18 at restaurants though, and you're probably gonna need some ID in supermarkets cuz they won't believe you when you say you're 16XD Most young people start drinking around 14 though^^ How's the rules where you come from?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PaperclippedMime In reply to VENUSLOVEMECHAIN [2009-03-07 20:51:27 +0000 UTC]

Wait... 16, really? And they won't freak out at you and card you and make you do hours of community service? 8U

Well, here, you MUST be 21 in order to buy alcoholic beverages anywhere - supermarkets, restaurants, anywhere. You can also get charged with possession if you are under that age, so basically, if you are under 21 and you get caught with beer or something, you're going to be taken to the police station. I think the first few offenses get put on your record and you have to do community service, and then after some number of offenses you may be sent to jail? But I am not sure.

At any rate, the rules here in the US are much stricter than in Europe, and there is also much more teenage alcohol abuse. I think that if the laws weren't as strict, that wouldn't be as much of a problem. But you are very lucky to have the rules that you have!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VENUSLOVEMECHAIN In reply to PaperclippedMime [2009-03-08 10:45:48 +0000 UTC]

Holy shit..Police charged...O_o
Here you can have it and drink it under 16, you just can't buy it yourself. Also if you try to buy it if your under 16, they'll probably just tell you that you can't and that's it.
Denmark is so easy going with everything( I suppose there is a reason we top the list with the youngest drinkersXD) I even saw a program with journalists from other countries which job was to figure out why Denmark was the happiest place on earth. The Aussie (Australian) figured out it was the beer.XD

But I would rather live in a important country like US. Denmark doesn't have anything to say and I doubt people even knew it existed before the muhammed crisis. (Hahah and that only brought us futher up on the terror list)...US at least got the power to decide what's going on with everyone.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PaperclippedMime In reply to VENUSLOVEMECHAIN [2009-03-08 14:43:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, probably if you tried to buy the beer if you're under 21, and you don't show legitimate ID, they'd probably just chase you out of the store, but if you're actually consuming the beer, you're done for. D:

The beer theory makes sense. : D I also heard that everything else (like pornography, gay marriage and marijuana) was legal in Denmark as well. I am guessing hard drugs like cocaine and 'shrooms are banned though, right?

And personally, I think I would rather live in a medium-influence country, that has good trade relations with a lot of countries, has enough of its own resources in order to have its exports be higher than its imports, with good standing in the world. I think the problem with the US is that we have gotten too involved in world affairs, and now we feel like we have to be the sole police force in the world (because we can't trust with anyone else with the job). And now, everyone is blaming the US for dragging the world economy down, 'cause we got too careless with our deficits and the housing market. D: So, personally, while I can see how it would be more worthwhile to live in a country that can do something to make the world a better place, if the country goes astray, then everyone blames you. I think with a medium-influence country, you would be forced to tread carefully because you don't have that big amount of influence, but you would actually get more good work done. With Denmark, yeah the taxes are at about 42% (that was the last figure I saw), but the healthcare and education are free! I think that's bloody fantastic. :3 I mean, here, only the minimal health stuff is covered by insurance, and universities average about $40,000 a year. D:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VENUSLOVEMECHAIN In reply to PaperclippedMime [2009-03-08 20:29:28 +0000 UTC]

Hahah hard drugs are not legal don't wory (Even we wouldn't go so far)
Things like pornography and such are of course more than legal.XDXDXD (Denmark was the first country in the world which made pornography legal.)
So which kind of country do you see as a medium-influence country? You mean like England or something?

US is like the world police I guess, but I'm relieved it's you and not some crazy dangerous country (Not that US aren't dangerous but at least you don't want to kill us allXD) Also I feel sorry for you but Bush was kinda easy to hate yah know? (Even though Denmark was like he's noble servant or something) haha I don't think Obama likes us after that.
The taxes are different depending on if you're rich or not. The richest pays around 60% and normal is around 42%. I think it's find because we get all the free stuff like education and healthcare. Also you'll never find a homeless who don't have the opportunity for help. But you're so many people in US, I think that system would be impossible. Also you're world is so different. Like normal people can have guns and such.If you have as much as a peber spray you're "done for" in DenmarkXD

But you know it's cooler to be the leading than some underling. ROFL Denmark surrendered in 1 day during world war 2. XD What does that say about is, lol.

I read the first couple of pages, but it's going to take me at least a few weeks to get through it because I have to pause for minutes at a time to laugh my ass off. X'D I am confused though, was this an ACTUAL D&D campaign, or did he just make it up for fun?

He made it up for fun, but he drew on actual experience. And yes, I know what you mean. I love that webcomic to pieces. I have about five all-time-favorite pages... though the entire thing makes me laugh.

Do you draw, color, and shade all by hand? o.0 Love it ^^ Oh, can you send me where to read Hetalia ^^ On another note: Where do you watch Anime? Because where I watch it, it only lets you watch 72 and then you have to wait an hour before continuing >.<

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PaperclippedMime In reply to EarthSpiritofDarknes [2009-03-04 02:27:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I did do it all by hand. : D Thank you, dear. ^^

AH YES, thank you for reminding me! Alright, so, the scanlation index is right here: [link] , the list for all the different sub-indexes is on the side. As for where I watch the anime, there are links posted on the Hetalia LiveJournal community: [link] , and the members upload the files online so you can download them and then either watch them on your computer or your iPod (mp4 is the format for iPod videos). However, the entries with the episode downloads are blocked for non-LJ users, so you would need to get an account to view those.

OH WAIT. XD Haha, sorry, that was way too complicated, but if you want to download the episodes, that is where you would go. However, if you want to just watch them online, go to [link] , they have all the episodes up to date, subbed. : D

HAVE FUN WATCHING! |D

Huh... I went to the first link but the Manga was in Japanese... Where is the English?

Thanx! I'm watching Soul Eater! ^^ It's awesome!

HAHA, YOU CERTAINLY DON'T. XD

And that's a good goal to set. You go for it! : D

Oh, and make sure that when you click on the link, you click on the LiveJournal link, the one after the word "Scanlation", that will get you to the comics that are in English. ^^

THANK YOU LOVE.

I was very meticulous on the coloring - I made sure to color inside the lines! |'D And you know that Denmark is secretly a diva. That's why he hasn't appeared in any comics yet - he'd hog all the screen time so Himaruya would have to rename the series to Scandinavian Powers Denmark or something of the sort. X'D
