Why did Lys get with Ryan? They are second cousins. So that would be incest.

Because in some states and the majorities of countries it's legal to marry a first cousin, a second one is wayyyyy less discussing. Also, I decided it would be okay morally because honestly who even knows their second cousins? And I think most people don't really consider second cousins "family", if that makes sense. Unless your extended family and their extended family manages to stay extremely close and gather together frequently, I would say most people have never interacted with their second cousins so in a way to each individual they wouldn't seem like family. In a way, it's kind of like having a distant family friend that you know you're related to but not in a way that you would consider them family in any way. And the main reason I felt it was okay was because in the wizarding community the population is small and limited when it comes to marrying a fellow wizard or witch rather than a muggle. And, because incest isn't as scandalous in the wizarding world, especially amongst large pureblood familys that date back for generations and generations, second cousins would be no big deal in comparison and I don't even think anyone would go against it or judge (just in the context of the community Lys and Ryan are in). Essentially, I know that it's incest, but depending on the society and how distant the family member of interest is from the relative that they're courting, it wouldn't be risky or frowned upon in the slightest. It's weird to us, but you have to place yourself in the mindset of a society in which incest either was or is the norm, and take yourself out of the grossness of it in modern day in order to apply the cultural beliefs and reality (which in this case would be that marrying a second cousin would be so unproblematic and even considered a positive thing if it's for love rather than to keep a bloodline pure like in the case of the Malfoy and Black family).
