Description
6/11/12 - EDITED, see edit at bottom of entry! So I finally, FINALLY got inspired to make something for the first time in AGES.
And what do I do?
Make a thief! why? I love thieves! thief characters, the thief game playstyle archetype, etc etc.
One of my fondest memories of thief characters come from their inclusion in the Final Fantasy games. As such, I thought i'd finally pay homage and start my own run at the various thieves found in each game. Of course, where else to start, but the first.
Granted, in the original he/she was ...underdeveloped but I wanted to kick this off right. Key thing here was that I really wanted to do kind of what Tetsuya Nomura did with some of the older characters for Dissidia. Namely, what he did with Garland. Using only the sprite as a base and studying Yoshitaka Amano's work for days on end, I finally came up with what's here; my interpretation of the Thief, in my best replication of Amano's stylings, with my approach. The original sprite is there for comparison :3
Hope ya like it! I haven't drawn a damn thing in months...and honestly, I'm actually happy with this ^_^

Addendum:
-Utensils- .5 non-photo blue leads, .5 standard lead mechanical pencil, assorted Prismacolor markers, Photoshop
-Working Time- 2 hrs. penciling, 3 hrs. inking and cleanup, 2 hrs. Photoshopping. Total: 7 hrs.
NOTE: Oh, I should mention, this is a MALE. Why is he in a speedo? Because if there's anything i've learned from Yoshitaka Amano, its that, HE wouldn't have been afraid to put a guy in a speedo. Yoshitaka Amano...making the manliest effeminate men since the 70's.
EDIT- The original sprite that was up on the corner has been removed (as of 6/11/12) for protective reasons.

A male thief in a speedo, thigh high boots, and midriff baring armor? I honestly wouldn't put it past Amano to design something like that.
Interesting take on the thief.

Hey, this is pretty sweet. I looked at an original sprite after looking at this and, just, wow. This is really good.
If it's not too much trouble to ask, may I feature your character in a Final Fantasy/Dissidia OC collage I'm making? (Of course all proper credit for the character will be given to you.

Awesome! I'd love to see this done with the other classes, like Black Mage and White Mage particularly.

I really love how you made your interpretation of the thief, as you said you have indeed made a amano-like character thanks to the speedo, the pearls, multiple folds... instant fav
