~The Azure Dragon of the East~
also known as; Dong Fang Qing Long or Meng Zhang (both Chinese) and Seiryuu (Japanese)

Element of Wood, Season of Spring

The first of four projects I've had sidelined for utterly forever...this is my personal depiction of the legendary and oft-seen in MANY media...Azure Dragon (of the East). It is of course, one of the four primary beings in the Chinese constellations as well as one of the four spiritual guardians of the city of Kyoto in which directionally - as stated in title - The Dragon protects it from the East.

Not a lot of backstory to explain here, its just a set i've been dying to do but never actually got around to doing - so I went with the dragon first. Each representation is meant to be a sort-of anthropomorphism of the beasts - with garb that directly corresponds to the being they derive from. In this case, the horned head piece and scaled armor as well as generally loose clothing is meant to symbolize the dragon through the character. The coloration for each will be much like my color sets - varying shades and hues of the color in the beast's name; hence here, Azure (read: a lot of BLUE). Each one also gets a weapon that symbolizes its element, which here - is a plain wooden staff, unrefined and pure (which is why it isn't all perfectly straight). Oh, and as the backgrounds might entail, I'll draw up each beast literally to match behind them.

-Utensils- .5 non-photo blue leads, .5 standard lead mechanical pencil, various Sakura pigment liners, assorted Prismacolor and Copic markers, Photoshop
-Working Time- 4 hr. penciling, 2 hrs. inking and cleanup, 4 hrs. coloring, 1 hr. Photoshopping. Total: 11 hrs.
