Designed Chirostenotes for the dinosaur project thingy. (Well, technically it's just a scaled down Anzu, but honestly Chirostenotes is just a bunch of hand and leg bones, so I needed something to reference and Anzu is conveniently close(?) relative.) Feat. all the floof ever.And then I spent like half an hour digitally smoothing out the paper, since the wrinkles were way too noticeable for my tastes after scanning.
I still don't know what the Singing People call them, but at least I know what they look like now. Yay!

Maybe they have an onomatopoeic name, based on whatever loud horrible noise the males make?
What size are these in relation to the People?

They are kind of a mix of black grouse, capercaillie and magpie, though it's possible there were some feeling of chicken in there too.

These are really cool. I get the impression that they'd be called 'floofs' or 'downies' because of their floof.

The black grouse plumage is a clever touch - I always like palaeoart that draws from living animals like that.
