Description
Whats different with this from my usual card alts is that I only used copic markers, which doesnt add any extra thickness to the card (unlike paint). This adds a bit of legitimacy to actually using this, if even only a little.Materials: Copic markers, black sharpies, hand sanitizer ( to scrape off original ink) x-acto knife, q-tips, paper towel.

Thanks! I'm more inclined to traditional processes though, if I were to redo this card alter I would probably redraw it; there were some things that I weren't satisfied with

Thank you! I know its hard to get over the fear of making mistakes on cards (especially since its not as easy as just getting a new piece of paper) but if you keep at it, you learn all the little tidbits associated with drawing/painting on such an unusual surface! Try it on common cards, you don't have to permanently scrape anything off and yugioh cards are surprisingly water resistant, as long as you dont let the liquids touch the sides!

oh awesome I will
i have heard people say they use the ultra fine sharpies, but thats about £15, and I just can't spare that :') so is there any cheap substitute you'd recommend?? or do you paint? thank you!

Usually people use paint when they do extended arts or paint over the main figure; paint is opague so will cover the picture completely. Markers, on the other hand would not completely cover the card art ( barring Black) so markers are more used for background colour changes and colour swaps. Markers can also tint holo surfaces so you can keep the shiny parts of holo cards that paint would completely cover. So it really depends on what you want to do; but for the art I make, I tend to use both markers (for outlines and background) and paint (for main body alter).
I have only really used Copic markers (The really expensive ones) so I would not recommend using those. Sharpies have a good adhesion to the card surface; but if you want to know if a certain brand will stick to the card, you can go to an art store where there are "testing areas" and bring a crap card to test different brands on There is a double-sided sharpie (with both fine and ultra fine tip) that I saw at my art store, I thought that was useful because for getting really fine detail in, you need a really fine tip. Just don't press too hard or you will mar the card surface.
I know that most ink-based black liners will wipe off. So far the only ultra fine black liners that are permanent are ultra fine sharpies, and Sakura Microperms [link]
I know that this kind of hobby can be expensive, so dont invest too much money until you are sure that you wont give up And if you find other brands that work well on cards, please tell me! Also if you dont know about Dragon Duelist Girl [link] on youtube, she is one of the best card alterers and where I got some tips myself.

Oh, and pretty much any okay quality acrylic paint will work. If you want to save money, stay away from copic markers because they are really expensive! ;_; Good luck!

Great job on this.

Thank you! I consider that one a rare instance of my spurt of creativity Your mats are also very good; I heard from another good mat artist that if you use water colour pencil for the outline, its a lot easier to remove stray markings - just use water.
