Description I've drawn Mock Turtles many, many times and they never fail to frustrate me.

They can't do much, other than sit upright or on their backs, due to the position of their shells and the corresponding joints of their fore-flippers and legs. I've tried to design mock turtles that could walk, or lie down, or do anything else. They're always terribly awkward and forced. Worst of all, they're not exactly true to the original description by Lewis Carol.

I really want to do a Mock Field Study of Mock Turtles, but I appear to be very uninformed of their anatomy and behaviors. I'll have to stick to portraits.

Such a sad mock turtle.

Could they walk upon their hind legs, do you think?

Their shells are so heavy though! They would fall on their backs! Not to mention, the shape of the shell limits thier full range of motion from their back legs.

Or so I'm guessing...

Very true.    Poor thing.
I imagine it galumphing along on it's belly like a very awkward seal.

That's probably exactly what it's doing.

Poor little guy.
