"I know you're listening…" the boy whispered to me, and I tried to silence him with my thoughts. I tried to speak to him, but my voice was of no use. Whenever I tried to speak, a hollow sound would flow through my lips. The boy, his short black hair in disarray, his clothes worn and tattered, his face and hands dirty, his feet sore and weary, his eyes wary and sad; the deep broken blue brought out by the dark bags underneath. He looked tired and miserable as if he had been searching far and wide for something for a very long time, but never found it. In his hand, he held a Celtic knot attached to a chain that locked around his wrist.

'Soldier' is how I instantly classified him. As if to prove my thoughts, his soul showed itself to me, it was a wolf, dark gray with intelligent yellow eyes, and it simply pulsed with confused feelings. I could see its heart beat in its chest, a solid red in wispy gray. I reached out to touch it, and it shied away letting out a mournful whine, and it retreated back to its owner.

This boy was a broken soldier. In his valiant quest to find himself, he had been beaten.  The Soul Devourers had tried to take the life and energy of this boy many times, I saw the telltale marks as scars on his wolf-shaped soul. The look in his eyes was of broken bravery.

  "An amissa puer adolescens?" (Are you the young boy who has been lost?) I asked, finding that my voice was not so hollow anymore.

"I am not lost."he said, raising his chin.  "Ive 'instituo vos." (I've found you.)
