Description
Lake Geneva on a -10c day, looking straight into the sun. This was an accidental outcome, but I rather liked it. Cropped the picture horizontally to focus the eye on the birds and the pier..probably not the best composition, but peculiarly interesting ?Related content

This is awesome - I love how the birds are all compacted on the left and then span out across the frame to the right - I'd say the composition is really good!
And I the sort of wide-angle lens effect you've given it with the lengthways cropping...

thank you..btw in "Stripes in the Wild", I used a minolta slr camera and film..this is a digital photograph be comparison, taken with a canon powershot pro 1..a wide angle lens was used so the cropping would add even more of a panoramic feel to it

Hmmm - hope I win that slr - need it desperately! I only have a Powershot A520 - do you reckon I can buy a wide-angle lens for that? Hope you'll forgive all the questions - I'm new to all the technicalities of photography!

I dont really know much about digital cameras but I would imagine that you could not get a wide angle lens for a compact camera as the lens is fixed

Sometimes I like accidents happening other times I don't. But I like how this "accident" for you turned out.

It looks almost surreal with the sun the way it' is flashing; makes me feel like the birds are bringing some sort of dimentional portal behind them... I think it turned out quite nicely.

thanks..I love these kinds of mistakes (forgot to change the manual setting on my camera before I took the photo, it is the same day about an hour earlier, as the previous deviation

Wonderful! Almost looks like you painted the birds in silhouettes of ink! I wish my mistakes turned out so well
