I didn't want to draw them in the style from the show. That's a rather simple style that requires more confident lines then I can currently make to look at it's best. *shrug* Besides, I wanted to stretch my semi-realistic muscles a bit.

I don't think you come off awkward. You seem just fine to me. Hell, we all have our awkward moments. The only tip I could give is to try not to worry and just be as you normally are, with out of course being mean to people, and all should be fine. You're okay just as you are!
As for being more popular.... I'd like some attention to my art, but popularity on dA seems to come with a whole bunch of things I wouldn't know how to handle so I don't know if I want the attention to go that far.
