Head bowed betweenrounded breaths
I’ve let you down again.
In these moments I swallow you
whole
tumbling past a spewing heart into
shuffling insecurities
and truly
people can be so disappointing.
You thread lingering sighs through my spine
not proud
but hoping that someday
you will be.

disappointment with yourself, because you can never meet the impossible, externally imposed goal of being perfect.
I am left to wonder if the standard you are not meeting is an artifact, one of the few memories left over of someone long dead that you hold onto as one of the few memories, or if it feeds you still and can be made less toxic?
