Description
It begins this way:you beg for me to see this bleeding meat from your point of view
but my glasses are broken
and I don’t feel like fixing them.
It’s still dead, for fuck’s sake.
It’s still bleeding
putrid
stinking
meat.
You tell me that it is meant to be greater
than death.
I see you swimming, mediocre
at the bottom of my cup.
So it ends this way:
I go to the sink
and pour you down the drain.

ok, then. help me out a little.
"it begins"
"it's still dead"
"it's still bleeding"
"it is meant"
define "it"? I tried from the clues, but I failed.

You wouldn't be able to discern what the "meat" is from the poem itself.
During the time I was writing this collection, I suffered an injury that affected the use of my leg and left me in excruciating pain for over 3 years. At the time, I had a significant other that did not believe anything was wrong and that I should "suck it up." That is who is being "talked" to in this instance.
Finally we realized that it was actually an injury to my spine, addressed it, and I'm better. The entire "Soft Needles in Sharp Places" collection is about my initial experience with my injury and coping with going from an athlete to dependent on others and how it affected my emotions and my relationships. Each title in the collection is either a medical term or in direct relation to my injury in some sense.
So, I say all of that to say...the "meat" is my leg. I didn't expect anyone to glean this from the poem, so don't feel bad.

ok. I get the idea now. the idea of an injury was, I think, 3rd level down on how that could make sense.
I know spinal injuries. I have a few permanent ones. I'll keep that in mind during this series

Fortunately they caught it in time so it didn't become permanent. I'm still in recovery, and my spine will never be completely "straight" (not that spines are straight, but you understand) again, but at least I'm not in pain anymore!

I'm glad they fixed you. mine's a little more permanent.
metal plates hold my head to my spine, and I have nerve pain that will never heal
