Anyways! Updated ref of this dood so it's not as small and crunchy. Most of his backstory is on his old ref, but just as a refresher:
Noel is a fallen Ophanim, a Throne, the burning wheel with a thousand eyes, meant to sing praises for their creator and to lack free will as an ultimately divine being. For most of their existence, they were little more than a perfect machine of holy light and fire with a single purpose to do nothing more than sing and serve. But something happened, an error, and a small part of them awakened when they encountered the low-bred incubus Erzeki who they had met during an excursion during the early formings of earth and life.
For this, the angel paid dearly, and was banished for getting too close to the incubus, as they had soon formed a deep and loving relationship with the demon. While their love could cross the divide that separated heaven from hell and burned hotter than the fires of the damned and the flames of glory combined, it was unbecoming of the Throne (and it obviously not highly looked upon by the heavenly host for an angel to couple with a demon).
Noel's secret was ultimately caught by their singing of praises for their lover in place of their lord, accidentally witnessed by other members of the heavenly host who had grown increasingly suspect of the ophanim's distraction and behavior.
The angel's lover was killed and wiped from existence to make an example out of him and as punishment for soiling such a being as the Throne, which left Noel depressed, heartbroken, and physically broken.
As an act of ultimate mercy, the angel's memory was wiped, and they were made into a body of flesh to be sent to earth to become cleansed of their sins by action, complete with a fake life and a fake history.
However, those competent enough, namely other demons and angels, could recognize the broken form of what the exorcist truly was wrapped within their mortal shell, unrealized by Noel himself.
In his new life, Noel was given a his name, and was in the belief that he was an orphan that was brought up by the church he serves. With the way his memories were remade implied that he was assaulted and made unclean by an incubus in his earlier life, which is what compelled him to be an exorcist (along with some heavy nudging by his angelic caretaker/handler, Father Elijah).
Unfortunately for Noel, he isn't very firm or effective when it comes to exorcising demons, so it seems his road to redemption and reclaiming his once lofty position would be a difficult one.
It further doesn't help that his supposed guide and mentor Elijah, a lowly guardian angel that typically would serve man, feels Noel had the "easy" way out and that he received special treatment for being such a high level angel formerly. While he is meant to guide Noel in the path of righteousness and to amend his past sins, he loathes him and hopes to see the ophanim fall for good or to cease existence.
