Description Okay, this is NOT really a tutorial, since I'll just show and won't really try to "teach" anything x_x.
I don't study art, I'm no expert, or anything, so it's just stuff I do based on my own experience. There are easier, and better ways to do this, but again, this is just how I, personally, do it. :3

Starting, obviously from left to right, in order of progress (no need to tell you that...), a few notes:

- I used prismacolor colored pencils, black fineliner (0.3mm), and bic ballpoint pen. Also, I don't really use the black prismacolor pencil a lot, I prefer ink instead.

1º- Basic pencil sketch, note I didn't work on the proper 'anatomy' here, since they're chibi, animu drawings, so I started right away doodling the outfits, along with a quick scheme of the background, and the frame. I do work on anatomy using the basic circles+lines+everything that everyone uses.

2º to 5º - Not much to say here, I like thick lines, as you can see there. Stronger lines outside, thinner lines for details, you all know that. But yes, I love thick lines, strong lines because my hand pulse sucks.

6º - Background is inked, and most of the black areas are filled in too. And added a very slight shading. I inked all the black areas except for the buildings in the back (mosty because I'm lazy).

7º - Started with the background first (which is rare from me), adding a simple, plain layer of purple, I used circles to fill everything here, straight lines are too easy to "see".

8º - Added black (pencil), very roughly and quickly on the buildings, and more circle-patterns in the lower half of the bg. Made some parts of the sky darker too, using the same purple pencil. Also, added cream-yellow to the streetlamp and the building windows.

9º - Ballpoint kicks in.
Added circle-patterns on the sky using the ballpoint, very slightly, and then "smudged" it using the sky purple. Then repeat. Mostly on the areas near the edges. In the lower half, I "blurred" the black circles using more purple and a light grey, strongly, yes, strongly on the paper. And then, like I did on the sky, ballpoint pen circles + smugding/blurring, and then more circles on top of that. Also, made the buildings darker, fixed the edges of them and the windows.

10º - Started coloring Aria.
Left part of her hair, is pure dark purple + black ballpoint pen. Right side, has less purple and less ballpoint, and added some cream yellow (same as the streetlamp). And added a slight base shading on her, purple for her coat (the same purple I've used for the whole drawing), jade-green for eyes, scarf, etc.

11º - Almost done with Aria. I mixed colors here.
For the white coat, I shaded it adding jade-green here and there on top of the light purple. (and a LITTLE ballpoint-smudging). And used purple on top of jade-green areas for shading. More ballpoint-smudging.
And also I started colouring Cerise, adding her "base" colors, orangeish-red mostly. Used the same purple to shade white areas.

12º - Finished Cerise.
Again, I shaded pretty much everything with purple, and used yellow-cream on the high-lights. I added ballpoint-smudging pretty much everywhere, and touched up with some quick lines as more shading.
And the final details, just random white-spots of white-ink here and there, for "shiny" effects, mostly on eyes, cheeks, boots.

The end D:

---

Anyway, I hope this wasn't a pain to read, and, maybe it won't be really useful to most of you xD but some people kept asking for a tutorial for a while.. and I suck at them so this is what I did.

Remember, ballpoints might be cheap, but they're awesome : D

bye bye.

Well I used to use other pencils before prismacolors with similar results I think : P some of them are very different and in the end, they'll always vary a little in the results

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Parororo In reply to pachaline [2010-04-09 02:36:50 +0000 UTC]

Es que... va por otro lado, .-. que pintar a lapiz no tiene por objetivo "parecerse a lo digital"..

Cada vez que oigo eso, me hace pensar que lo dicen como si Digital estuviera por encima de lo Tradicional..

"pintas tan bien que casi parece digital!"... es como.. omaigad -A-;

Tendré que cambiar mi estilo de pintado o algo xD

pachaline In reply to Parororo [2010-04-09 03:33:54 +0000 UTC]

Parororo In reply to pachaline [2010-04-09 04:26:07 +0000 UTC]

"queda taan bonito q parece digital " <--- eso xD

Dices "tu dibujo digital quedo taan bonito que parece tradicional" ?.. xD;

Sólo digo que no deberían compararse ambas cosas , porque lo digital no es "mejor" que lo tradicional.. sólo eso xD
