no, it's just a photomanip.
vector pieces can't be that hard. you just take a photo and trace the shapes using the pen tool on a layer above.
i hear Flash is a great tool for vectorising photos as well as drawing smooth freehand paths.

bingo - that's the first thing i thought when i saw the original stock photo: this has so much contrast-potential. so i played with it until i got there. the other stock photo was, again, a question of contrasting technical with organic. it also became a great way of showing the conflict of indecision.
this was quite fun to do actually. i generally won't do a piece like this unless the inspiration hits me.

thanks! whiting-out areas is also a great way of smoothing imperfections, although that wasn't really the intention here.

much appreciated. i think this is the kind of thing the japanese had in mind when they came up with the makeup of geisha girls. the white has a smoothing effect over the features.
