when i change the icons on my start menu bar they always open in separate icons how do i fix that?

Not sure if I understand you 100% but I think your saying for example, clicking the Firefox icon that is pinned to the taksbar would open a second Firefox icon on the taskbar?
If so I've never experienced that personally but I would right click on the newly generated icon on the taskbar and pin that one instead, not sure if that would work?
