oh! of course. we usually make one word of it - "goldfish"

well i just took "poisson rouge" literally myself
hard to remember pre-google sometimes. the boys used to ask me all kinds of questions and i just had to invent the answers

good old days when it was us who had the answers. now it's mostly me who have the questions. not to count all the times he reminds me that there IS something called internet where i could find the answer to all my problems.Β i kepp forgetting!

i can hear his voice - "just google it, Mom!
what makes me smile is that Alex, who is a professional IT guy, is always googling technical questions while at work. the people he works for could actually find their own answers sometimes but he's there to do it for them.
the internet and the web are our external brain

with a little problem though, our internal brain have a tendency to atrophy, meanwhile

oh that's what people say but actually i think...
wait, what was the question?
just kidding. i crack myself up
it's a good question - our brains are definitely rewiring because of it, compared to our pre-web selves. and yeah, there's got to be a degree of atrophy of a certain kind. but the brain is so plastic... i bet we could go back to retaining lots of facts ourselves if we lost the web.
i'm not making any big point here - just

(oh, when I first read the title I assumed it was "poison". here's for my knowledge of French )
so how do you take your underwater photos, Hanan (if you don't mind revealing the secret), was it a bathtub, an aquarium or a pool?
π: 0 β©: 1
partiallyHere In reply to zosiaq [2014-09-04 00:31:53 +0000 UTC]
and maybe i should have called it "golden fish" which is the same fish, but i liked the sound of it in french better
i take them in a bathtub, i usually go under the water with the camera in my left hand, trying to keep it as far from me as i can (only works in my big old bathtub, i tried in others, not enough space! don't bother buying an underwater camera if you live in a new apartment )
but as i said in the comment box, in this one, (and some of the others i posted before) i was in the water, on my back and the camera was outside over me.Β i use scarves to have colors and lines in my image.
but i should say i ran out of inspiration now. plants, flowers and scarves... what next? not a plastic duck, please.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
zosiaq In reply to partiallyHere [2014-09-04 09:39:19 +0000 UTC]
aah now I know! I used to think it was the way you edited them. scarves are a great idea. I can't think of anything else, but will let you know if I come up with something.Β
we had an underwater camera in Italy and Sri Lanka 2 years ago, the film is still waiting to be developed!

partiallyHere In reply to zosiaq [2014-09-04 13:47:57 +0000 UTC]
i always smile, i can't believe it when you say: i have films waiting from two years ago!Β
when i take images, i can't sleep before i see them all, and sometimes edit them, maybe not all the 400 of them, but still at least a few dozen before the night has ended.
how can you wait so long?
π: 0 β©: 1
zosiaq In reply to partiallyHere [2014-09-04 19:49:15 +0000 UTC]
but it's like a really nice surprise waiting for me!
(well, when I like them); and when I have so many, there's nothing I can do - sometimes I can't afford to have them developed,
I only do it when I'm in Poland - it costs a pound per film, which is 5 times cheaper than here
2 years is nothing - my dad still hasn't developed his wedding photos from 1981
π: 0 β©: 1
partiallyHere In reply to zosiaq [2014-09-05 18:15:01 +0000 UTC]
haha, so it runs in the family!
here also it''s very cheap, specially that not many use them anymore. but i don't have the patience needed, and i do love too much the photoshop step. i can't simply give it up, it's half the pleasure of photography, for me
π: 0 β©: 1
zosiaq In reply to partiallyHere [2014-09-05 19:50:36 +0000 UTC]
ha, so you're the opposite of me well, you work in a completely different way!
I really don't like photoshop and I only use it to crop scanned negatives,
sometimes to make digital photos darker.
I just have no patience for it (funny how people have patience for different things)
can you still get different types of film, or is it only 35 and 120mm?
π: 0 β©: 1
partiallyHere In reply to zosiaq [2014-09-06 12:11:33 +0000 UTC]
i guess only the 35 and 120. i tried to find for a Yashica i borrowed, as well as for the Polaroid cameras i have, but i didn't succeed. and i searched in many places.

I think they stopped making the type that fits Yashika altogether, Dafydd found a roll of it some time ago and encouraged me to use it, but it's too much pressure - the last roll! they will probably start making it somewhere again, it'll just be very expensive
it's a shame that analogue photography is turning into a hobby for the rich. there are so many people even in Abertillery who say they used have darkrooms, but can't afford it anymore.

which is totally the inverse on what should be happening.
but yes, it's sort of an an inverted snobism, like everything in the world lately.
it irritates me, to be honest.
