Description
this is page two in the series of four page Ekos comic book I created to present to Aspen MLT. at the 2004 Comic con international convention earlier this year. The work was completely created by me using characters and concepts developed by Mike Turner and Aspen MLT.enjoy.

Beautiful work. I wish to some day gain the amount of skill to create work such as this.
I really love the smooth lines, textures, and the pure amount of fantasy that flows through these Ekos pages youve created. Kudos on the work, very beautiful stuff.

Completely by you? seriously?
Oh snap. And here i was thinking that to do a book all on my own i'd have to cut down on quality...

haha nope, Why on earth would you think you would have to sacrifice quality for a self made book? But yeah, I did do it all myself, took a little bit of time (a whole month) but I got it done. Now looking back at it I wish I had never waisted my time making it.

well i want my book to, when it's finally done, come out on a regular basis.. so i thought i'd have to find a style that'd allow me to work quick.. which may be a little bit less detailed than my usual style.
why do you see this as a waste? Ekos is still going to come out later, isn't it? *hopes*

I see it as a waste because of why I created it. It's whole purpose for creation was to be used as a submission to Aspen MLT. When I met Mike he asked me if I had ever wanted to draw Aspen characters, that he loved my work and wanted to see me draw some of his creations. so I created this book to showcase what I could do. instead of the reaction I thought I would get based on his earlier reactions, I was met with a law suit threat. What's worse is that they had Peter steigerwald (a man of enormous presense) threaten me with the law suit. I remmeber thinking wow, they have a guy who could sit on me and kill me threaten me with a law suit, how low.
It was then that I realized that I didnt want to work with any company that could be so petty. So I waisted time making a submission I was asked to do, set up is more like it, when I could have been working hard on my spec script, mock trailer, and graphic novel that I plan to present to production studios to gain funding for a feature length live action film version of "Ecru chronicle 1 " At the moment my script writer and I are working on the acctual script for Ecru, and I have to say its shaping up to be a cool story so far....at least in my head it looks awesome

Are you serious!?! WTF! that is not helping at all, We all know your style has an undeniable "Turner" flare to it, but for them to take it there is insane. Did you ever talk to mike about it?

well when I was writing that in the comments here I was definately more emotional about the whole situation since it had just happened. So I appologize for the negative tone. But now it doesnt really matter to me. just a story I keep having to explain when everyone and their brother ask me "why Im not taking over Fathom or Soulfire or working for Aspen" I've been asked that a lot.
No, I never got a chance to talk to Mike about it. Honestly I was always too affraid becuase I didnt know if those were his sentiments also, or if he honestly had no idea. I had always hoped to one day ask him once I got up the nerve. I guess now I'll never know.
now every time I talked to him up to that point, he had nothing but good things to say about my work. And one time after the incident, one of my art prints of my own artwork was bought from my table, and taken to Mike without my knowledge. Mike signed it and said good work on it, and they acctually brought it back and gave it back to me. but that could mean anything in terms of how he felt about it, though it did mean a lot to me.
any ways its old news and history.

I see. thanks for the clarification. BTW, speaking of dealing with comics, do you know of any decent color or ink artist that might be free to help me take on a project? Got something i'm going to submit to Image but apparently they are picky about consistency with artist involvement. So if i get a green light, i'm going to need some help from capable artist that have the time.

Anyway.. i bet it'll be great. Ecru is a cool name too. Maybe if we're lucky you'll share a character design or two...? hmm? lol
